I have a transaction that's pending and taking forever to clear. I tells me that the estimated confirmation time is within 6 blocks. What does that mean? In hours. Also is it possible to speed it up or am I locked in and must wait?

I sent some coins from Bitcoin Core and paid their suggested transaction fee. So next time I should bump up the fee by a few more satoshies to speed it up? Is there a chart that tells us how much more to bump it up to have it confirmed within X time?

Thanks for the info and help!

It's pretty much random. Some blocks confirm in under 10 minutes and others take hours.

Higher fee does help, but it's still random for the most part. Best thing you can do is leave your Bitcoin Client open and it will keep propagating the transaction.

Blocks doesn't need any confirmation, transactions does.  Higher fee will make transaction confirmation less random.  Best thing you can do is paying higher fee.

What you're looking for is https://bitcoinfees.21.co. It shows you the fees in satoshi/byte so you have a better idea how much your current fee should be. I've been finding the fees higher than normal right now (about 100-120 satoshi/byte if you want them confirmed in the first or second block).

The current fee is 51 satos per byte for next block, not 100-120 satos.

If you provide the TXID, members should be able to tell what the issue is.
Your payment is likely coming from an unconfirmed prior tx, if your tx has an appropriate fee.

I guess your transaction with getting a complete over 3 days late, are in the low priority. and prove your txid like above me said for checking the detailed about your transaction or you should for waiting several days about your amount.

first of all 6 block confirmation means the time taken by miners to solve 6 network blocks each consisting with 10k-20k transaction so after verifying those transactions including you, all those transactions will get 1 confirmation including yours and this process will repet 6 times

Some of these accounts are bought, so it is expected that people with very little knowledge about Bitcoin could still ask silly questions. The Ranking system is not a indication of someone's intellect, but rather his frequent use of the forum over a long period.

OP, go to this site https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ to get more information on Bitcoin fees.

It's just strange to me as it never happened before. It's been 7 hours and still didn't confirm.
Its because next 6 blocks doesn't always mean it will be confirmed within next 6 blocks and also there has been lots of lag between blocks being mined and its not always 10 minutes per block. But without you posting transaction id, its hard to predict how much time it will take but if you have included some fee than it will get confirmation after some more hours.

6 blocks should mean that it takes on avarage 6 blocks for such a type of transaction to go through.

On average that means 6 * 10 minutes or an hour. If it takes longer, it might be that there are a lot of transactions waiting to be confirmed or that the blocks are only slowly being found.
You can increase the fee a bit next time, as 6 blocks is quite a high number already. It is worth paying 10 cents extra to avoid this hassle and stress over the transaction imo.
