So I've been trying a few things just now.

Not necessarily altcoin though, more like bitcoin.

You can try NiceHash Miner, currently version v1.7.3.2, getting about ~0.000135 BTC/day
Or from Windows Store app (8 or 10), Bitcoin Miner, getting about ~0.000047 BTC/day

With i7-2630QM CPU

Hmmm I'm relly getting 0.135 mBTC/day as per GUI, reaping about ~70 H/s (8 threads: each getting 6-8 H/s). It's a laptop processor though with only 2.00 GHz.

I'll be trying out Zcash and see how it goes.

Just look for new algos in Announcments section.

Bitsend just changed to CPU only. ZEC and Zcoin are still good too.

These days everything happens around ZCash. The price is high, the difficulty still OK, even CPU mining works.
I suggest you start with that for now, just convert into BTC asap, since the diff is rising and the price is falling.
The miracle will not last long.
Then you'll have to find another coin for CPU. Quite hard. I use to mine Cryptonote coins if their price is okay and diff not too big. Or zcoin can be another option.
