As long as you keep your PC clean, use an antivirus software, don't visit sites you don't trust and don't download shady exe files it is safe (much safer than online wallets). If you are planning to store a big amount of Bitcoin and look for an even safer solution try a paper wallet or buy a hardware one.

There is never a good and secure place to store your Bitcoin. Every system have vulnerable and it really comes down to how you handle it. By far Bitcoin Core is one of the safest if you know how to protect your computer and your wallets - like what isen mentioned.
However, I wouldn't recommend you to store all your Bitcoin in one place/machine. If you have a lot of Bitcoin (who know how much for how long?), you should spread them between a lot of wallets ranging from Bitcoin Core to hardware wallet. This way if something bad happen to one of your machine or wallet, you still have some Bitcoin left.

Desktop wallets are also okay to keep your bitcoin on it because you have the possesion of your private keys but the risk of lossing it is still there. Just like what is being mentioned above you must have a clean pc and an antivrus in able to avoid being hacked on your desktop wallet. If you really possess huge amounts then better to find and use hardware wallets. In my own opinion.

Bitcoin core is safe compared on web wallets because you have the private keys and you would able to retrieve it back when theres unexpected circumtances might happen in your bitcoin. If you are making secure on your bitcoin better to keep on cold storage paper wallets or trezor and other hardware.

Some online wallets actually let you create copy of your private keys, export it, store and import later to software wallet of your choice - for example Blockchain.info has this feature. Bitcoin Core is the first and the longest developed bitcoin wallet. It is open sourced and it is probably the most trusted bitcoin wallet available. If you want to learn more about it, I recommend this article: http://www.coindesk.com/original-bitcoin-wallet-still-matter/I am using Bitcoin Core myself and the only con I found so far is that some antiviruses report bitcoin-qt.exe as harmful file containing virus/malware.

Bitcoin core is fine as long as you never go to any websites that could potentially give you a virus (in fact keep the computer off of the internet as much as possible) and you make sure to back up your wallet multiple times before doing anything with it. Core is a good wallet overall imo.

I consider bitcoin as safe as long as you have your backup wallet and private keys stored on secured place. Also, as long as the servers are running and having an internet, bitcoin is there and safe to use.

. Back up wallet and make sure your private key secured is very important, but don't forget to change your private key periodically. It will helps you to keep your wallet safe. So i think bitcoin core will store our bitcoin safely when we do al of that tips

I also suggest you this however can't understand what it mean by linux live boot? You can use your old pc/laptop which can function but you never connect it to internet. Just use it to generate paper address and print it in offline printer. Than you can format that old pc and never connect it to internet. Although You need to take care of that printed paper wallet and store it in some safe place protected form water, fire and obviously no one should have access to it.

no matter what wallet you use you should do the following to be safe, otherwise it is never safe: 1) download from the correct source. for example download core from bitcoin.org not anyplace else 2) learn how to check the signature and do it. read this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1588906.03) either install it on an offline computer for maximum security or if you do it on an online one try to keep it clean, watch for keyloggers and also encrypt the wallet.

Im not aware about that feature on blockchain.info where you can copy on your private keys that sounds really a good thing for me because i do use also that web wallet for fast online transactions . Thanks for this new information brother, i would try these feature and securing my bitcoin even on webwallets. I use bitcoin core too and you should really be careful on downloading malware on your pc and might get those bitcoins that are being stored .

Downloading full bitcoin node can be time consuming as well as bandwidth consuming so you can save your bitcoin in either paper wallet that can be printed offline or you can purchase hardware wallet like trezor for few hundred dollar if you like to store 1000's of usd worth bitcoin.

Get your knowledge about bitcoin core and this will not waste your time. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoin_CoreHonestly, you need learning more about bitcoin core like me. You might for using the simple wallet rather than using bitcoin core(Offline wallet). like a lot of people above's said KEEP YOUR PC CLEAN AND KEEP YOUR AMOUNT SECURED.

There is no 100% secure place to store the Bitcoins. Everything has its vulnerabilities anr you can't escape that. But you can keer your Bitcoin split in different places, so in different wallets so if something happens that you don't lose them all. That is my suggestion.

download the webpage https://www.bitaddress.org/take your computer offline ( remove the internet wire ) load a linux live boot cd/usb. print out a public/private key pair using that bitaddress webpage. you've got yourself cold storage. I will definitely go for this way, just in case I want to store a lot of bitcoins, so I think a paper wallet is the safest but have some disadvantages like paper degrade or the paper itself can be lost all together.
