i actually listed for a loan for 4btc, and i i got a PM saying i should send 1btc first as collateral. please advice?

Your thread does not make any sense. Are you looking for a 4BTC loan here, or are you loaning out 1BTC?  Huh

i requested for a loan on the newbie section and i got a PM from a member asking me for 1btc as collateral.

Well, he's probably trolling you TBH. However, please let this be known that without any prior reputation or any collateral, no one's going to lend to you. What's preventing you from running away and making a new account, just to ask for yet another loan?

A short guide of getting bitcoin loan is here ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=97214.0), but I don't really expect anyone to bite even if ID is given. A quick look around here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0) can let you know how rampant scams are in this forum.
