Hello, I have been using bitcoin for a short time mainly for online gambling sites and money transfers between other bitcoin users.

Recently, a friend sent roughly $1000 worth of bitcoin to Netteller and despite the transaction being confirmed on the senders side, the transaction shows up as "denied" on nettellers end.

Netteller was contacted and we were told it would be refunded within 3 business days. Based on what I know about bitcoin (which isn't much) it seemed like it is not that easy and may take some work on nettellers end. I have no clue really but I felt like they were just blowing us off instead of giving facts.

Please advise. And thanks for the forum. I just found this and look forward to browsing and contributing.

I don't believe there is a way for a Bitcoin address to "deny" a received transaction,
so this is probably a Netteller function.

Hopefully someone on the forum is more familiar with Netteller.
There may be nothing you can do but wait the 3 days for them to process a refund.

Thanks for the quick reply. My understanding was they couldn't deny as well. When I look at their site though it clearly says "denied" under the transaction instead of "pending" or "approved."

Thanks again.

they do infact have the bitcoin. i beleive they are just denying you service/goods (whatever it was you wanted to use the bitcoin for)

EG if it was an exchange/payment service they are not allowing you 'credit' balance.
instead they will send the bitcoin back. and refuse future service to you.

if you send them the funds using a wallet you have full control of the private keys to, they can simply send it back to the address it came from.

but if you sent them funds using a exchange or payment service. be sure to tell them an address belonging to you to send the bitcoin back to.

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

How netteller is going with bitcoin?

I saw a lot of compaints about the service, like they are locking the fiat currencys, you can't spend bitcoins where you want and things like that...

It is not bitcoin discussion it is service discussion about Neteller's bitcoin policy. Sending Bitcoin to 3rd party service - in this case Neteller - is not exactly using it in p2p fashion.
Normally if you send bitcoin to someone your BTC can't be automatically returned (for example if you mistype sender's address) you will get your bitcoin only if someone will decide to send BTC back to you.

The way Bitcoin works is it sends a non deniable amount to someone.  Now unless something went wrong with the transaction in the first place you would remain in holds of the Bitcoin.  Them saying it was denied is basically a big F U.  Sounds like you got ripped off unfortunately!

There is no such thing as a transaction denying in with Bitcoin, when the amount you send is sent, it goes to the seller. Its their determination if they want to cancel payment and send said Bitcoin back. Hopefully you get yours back if this is the case with you.

There's no way that a transaction will be denied on blockchain sine I haven't seen one yet for a long time. The one that denies the payment is neteller and I do hope that they return it to you. All that can be done on your part is to wait and see if they will return the bitcoin you sent or not since there is a probability of them not returning the bitcoin you sent or if you use an exchange to send it to them notify them immediately.

Find your answer in here and try for asking about your another question in beginner and help, it seems you do not realize about some of the kind of service.

with bitcoin you can see everything on the blockchain. so they can never deny receiving bitcoin. they give you a bitcoin address to deposit lets call it 1Netteller.... and you send them $1000 in bitcoin from your address lets call that 1MyAddress...
you can go on an online block explorer and see that your address has sent 1Netteller.... bitcoin and see if it is confirmed or not. being confirmed means they have received it and there is no "denying" that. the denied you see on their website is their fault for showing it that way.

for refunds they have to ask you for your bitcoin address. if you still control 1MyAddress... give that to them or a new address and tell them to send BTC back to your address.

Thanks for all he responses. Learning a lot here.

If the bitcoin was sent from insight is it correct to assume we would still control the address?

i am not sure if i understand you, but let me say this. you send bitcoin from address to address. in this case you send it to netteller and you can check (via blockchainexplorer) if the transaction was received in their address. they most likely received the bitcoin but denied to do business with you, so they will have to send it back. and now comes the important part. they need an address to send it back. they should ask you for an address to send back, because they can not be sure if the address you send it from is still controlled by you. you could have send the money directly from an exchange, so if they send it there the exchange will have it, but how should they know that the money was intended for you? or you could have already moved to a new address and lost the private key to the old address.

Nope, Bitcoin has absolutely no returns, and no chargebacks. This is one benefit it has over Paypal.

I have come across many businesses where they will not acknowledge deposits which are less than specified limit (most commonly, they will not approve any deposit which are less than 0.001 btc) due to prevent possible abuse of using their address for faucet kind of small payment receiving. This is first time, I do hear a big amount was not acknowledged.

If the bitcoin was sent from insight is it correct to assume we would still control the address?
The ball was out your court. When you are dealing with reputed business/people, they will listen to your requests.

Still controlling a address does not guarantee you to get back any refund as there is no such facility within bitcoin system.
If you are talking about your friend's neteller's deposit address, it is up to their business policy.

This situation has been also seen before. Neteller use bitpay to accept bitcoin payments and there is time window set by neteller and if the transaction doesn't get confirmed within that time period neteller just mark it as denied even it get confirmed after few hours.

In this case you can contact both bitpay and neteller support, bitpay support is pretty friendly to help on this case. Either you guys will receive neteller funds or you will get your bitcoin back by bitpay. Provide all details regarding transaction as well your refund address to bitpay if neteller can't help you or doesn't make those deposit on your account.

Denied from receivers end? This is something new for me as from the time i'm using bitcoins i have never encountered something like this where a receiver can deny a transaction   Undecided  Maybe the site is scamming your friend and not willing to give the money back or maybe something else, but there isn't any option for denying a transaction in bitcoin.

If transaction is confirmed within blockchain network than it means those bitcoin will not be reversed back however neteller may have denied it for investigation or there was some problem with their system and it didn't detected your transaction as confirmed. Wait for them to reply..
