Hello Friend,

I would like to show off

The Keyois Capsule

which is a method of cold hard storage meant to be resistant to: fire, water, rust, rot, corrosion, smoke, high temperatures, low temperatures, physical damage, Tampering, & Viewing.

Unlike other cold storage methods this item keeps your key or seed safe in a decorative capsule until you need to spend the funds. Like a piggy bank the item must be physically destroyed to access the secret key or seed. This means unlike other cold storage methods, no one can steal you funds by looking at this item.

What is it?

A decorative cryptocurrency piggy bank in concept. The item itself is:

A laser-etched encrypted key or seed on a small titanium ring and epoxied into a bigger ring that has the address engraved on the outside of it. This is put in a water/air tight and tamper evident/resistant capsule. That means this is more complicated than a 'physical bitcoin' which is all-in-one.  When used in conjunction with a cryptosteel or metal stamping/engraving you can feel more secure than ever about the long term viability of your seed/key.

Why is it?
I saw the methods of cold storage out there and found many flaws with them . I also liked the Kialara coin and cryptosteel, but I didn't like that the kialara could have the secret key lost in a fire, and as great as 304SS is I wanted something a bit better and for my own reasons less paramagnetic. I also found some cool items at that time and decided to build my better method around those decorative pieces.

Really I made this for me because I wanted something better than what was out there. Most people will not need one as they have access to better backup procedures. It's far from perfect since it was designed around engraving BIP38 encrypted keys which means the owner has to create a strong/ long pass phrase. It is designed for those that don't have their own property so they can't have reliable multiple locations and they need what they have to last.

It's small, pretty, and hand assembled. I've been working on the idea for a number of months all by myself and now I'm done with the first edition I'd like to show it off so others can learn about problems with their own cold storage methods.

Hello Everyone, I saw that Cryptosteel made a post in this category about their bitcoin project and since I have a sort of related bitcoin project I thought my post would be acceptable as well. It certainly was a project! I mean I did a bunch of research and learning to do it and make it happen and it's taken a lot of time and effort. But it's real now, as many will point out this means you have to secure your pass phrase and can seem more complicated, it's not for everyone. If you use a strong/long pass phrase you should have no fear, just be sure to keep that pass phrase on a good medium, that's the whole point of all this.

I'm going to be doing some durability testing of the capsules and I'd like to share my results and even take suggestions (but I can't promise I can do them).

Testing underwater, water tight in a glass of water for a few weeks. Under 30PSI one of the capsules got some moisture in it though after a few days https://imgur.com/a/aY9F3
