New currency? it's almost dead. and you'll need a scrypt ASIC.

Dogecoin is dead. It was alive and great for a long time but it's over, unfortunately. I remember mining it with so much happiness but it turned out it is just jot worth it for me.. I prefer Bitcoin over any other Altcoins and will always use it.

Wow I read the thread title and it was like a blast from the past. Yes, dogecoin is pretty much done from the home mining perspective as it is now merged mined with other scrypt coins such as litecoin with industrial ASICs.

You can buy it pretty cheaply though if you want to hold some, it does tend to do a pump and dump every so often. You might be able to double or triple your money in the next couple of months, although I wouldn't risk anymore than just pocket change on such a gamble as it could also just as easily go to 0.

DOGE is not new, it's been around for years - and pretty much died around the time they decided to make ti merge-mineable.

I believe that most of the mining on DOGE at the time is from folks merge-mining it from ASIC machines that are primarily mining Litecoin.

what is a scrypt ASIC ,is it a combination of GPUs connected together or some other company selling those like bitmain ,if so can you provide a list of companies that sell ASIC which could mine Zcash, monero or ETH

no it's not gpu, it's a device that is designed to do a specific task only, like mining scrypt in this case or mining only sha256 coin in bitcoin case, usually they are not worth it, you will never roi with asic

and on top of that they are worthless very fast unlike gpu that can hold their value for months/years

It is an ASIC designed for the Scrypt algorythm as used by Litecoin, DOGE, and some other coins.
The most common one is probably the Innosilicon A2 (they recently released their new A4 model but it seems like it's got some software bugs right now), there are also some KNC Titan units still alive and hashing, and possibly a few of the less common units like the Alcheminer, the various Gridseed versions, the Zeus models, and a few others.

The A4 is the ONLY current-production ASIC for Scrypt, but there are plenty of used Scrypt miners around by various folks.

Scrypt coins have not been profitable to mine on with a GPU for ballpark 3 YEARS now, even with VERY VERY cheap electric - even the Gridseed ASIC (the first that could do Scrypt) would be better efficiency than the best possible current GPU setup, and those Gridseeds are money LOSERS unless your electric is under 4c/KWH. Every Scrypt ASIC since the Gridseed has been quite a bit more efficient.

There are NO ASIC that mine ZCash(ZEC), Monero(XMR), or Ethereum (ETH/ETC).

Zcash is so new the programs to mine it with on a CPU or GPU are still buggy and crashy or very slow - and nobody has a clue if it's going to have any staying power yet when it's only been live for A WEEK so no ASIC company is likely to be even thinking about designing an ASIC for it yet. It also seems to need a lot of memory to run.

Monero has been a very low value coin for most of it's existance, with a market cap that wouldn't even think about justifying ASIC development for it - it is also a high-memory-usage coin that would make an ASIC fairly expensive to mine it at all.

Ethereum has the same high-memory-usage issues of Monero and ZCash only worse, *AND* is supposed to go Proof Of Stake (and therefore no more mining at ALL) sometime next year.
Nobody sane would buy an ASIC for Ethereum at this point (and there are VERY FEW other coins using the same algorythm, none of which have a large market cap).

Dogecoin is still alive and well, and its community may have some good things going. The comments on here are mostly from the perspective of a miner. Dogecoin mined by itself will cost more money than what you could sell the Dogecoin for. It would cost less to just buy the Dogecoin if you wanted some. However merge mining Litcoin & Dogecoin together can pay for roughly 20% of your electricity to run your miner. Or if you run a Litecoin mining pool it can allow you to pay out over 100% LTC with no fee to the miners and still make a profit off of selling the aux coin (Dogecoin).

ps: If you are looking for a used asic scrypt miner for fun and to learn about mining or how they work I have several entry level & intermediate asic scrypt miners for sale. pm me if interested.

Mining LTC and other alts since 2014 when I thought I missed the BTC train.
