a few newbie questions

hey guys,

i mined a year ago for like 3 months.
now i saw that is still had 0.37 btc left so nice bucks already.

now i am thinking of building a mining rig for approx 5k.

what kinda a rig should i build?
and how mutch will it make me a month?

for BTC you want an ASIC miner, but its hard to acquire an avalon, even harder to acquire BFL ASIC

for LTC you can still use GPU miners, this miner is based on scrypt so thats why the ASIC's cant mine them.

For TRC/FRC/BBQC/PPC you can also use your GPU/FPGA miners.

If you're dead set on mining then go out and buy some good 2nd hand mobos with enough PCI slots, get a bunch of 7970's, 6990's or 5970's and mine away.

Alternatively you could buy 5K worth of BTC directly and watch the value rise (If it continues the current trend of course, I am not responsible if it crashes and you're out 5K)

BTCi am more a hands on guy so buying 5k btc is not my style what kinda rig woumd you biuld for that money?

Although now I would have to sink it in directly to BTC.

However I am thinking about adding a few LTC miners to my house, and If I am going to do this then I would have a standard rig running with some decent RAM and the GPUS would be 6950's or better (7950, 7970, 6990, 7990, 5970) are pretty good for LTC I think, you also need a good PSU, the better power efficiency the better if you are paying for power.

mining btc is the business of asic buy some bfl and pray the deliver. bummer because the price just doubled, delivery this summer, when

to mine other cryptocurrencys it's a more complicated affair, if you like to solve problems then it's ok for you. Just look for the thread that talks of the 10$ plastic case and it will tell you how to build a well ventilated case for your computer farm.

with 5000$ you can build 4 computers of 3* 7970 cards each plus mobo cpu ram hd and case each. Look at the hardware thread ans you'll find one with the basic starter kit.

IT WILL RUN HOT, you need a well ventilated place with a good AC or 2, but free heating in winter.


Me I mine with my old GPu and maybe i'll buy a 7950 or 2

i am goning to test for a few days or weeks with one 7950 and check out how low i can get the temps and see how mutch i learn and maybe upgrade after that to 5 cards to have some fun with btc again
