Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that 500 and 1,000 rupee banknotes would be withdrawn from circulation at midnight, saying it was part of a crackdown on rampant corruption and counterfeit currency.

I believe the sterp taking by the prime minister may help in preventing circulation of fake currency and also may strengthened the currency by increasing it in value when some note are withdrawn from circulation

There is a new ₹2,000 banknote introduced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), but as of now there are no plans for ₹5,000 and ₹10,000 banknotes. The last time India had banknotes of those denominations was in 1978. Higher denomination notes were demonetized in January 1978, to curb the menace of illegal hoarding and black money.
