I have not had the habit of following the news before, and after spending some time on this forum and talking to people in real life about the economy, I find most people knows what's going on in the world, economically. I really wish to get first hand information as well and stay more updated. Any recommended source of news?

Bloomberg and Economist are good sites to get an idea about trends and economic news in general. You can look at social media too, for real time updates.

Bloomberg and Economist are good sites to get an idea about trends and economic news in general. You can look at social media too, for real time updates. I read both but find Bloomberg to be very slanted in their articles and not reliable for anything indepth or honest. Read it more to see what smear campaign the left are attempting to run. Economist is great for whats going on in the world, usually I read it front to back but it does put me to sleep. Prefer to read these physically rather than websites. Whatever sites you use make sure you are also following the opposite of that site is political viewpoint to balance out any propaganda.

To be economically literate person is not enough to read the news. You must be able to analyze them. I advise you to read the different analytical articles. They are also interesting information.

CNBC, Telegraph and BBC are good because they're easy to use and brief. Some sites like bloomberg are lag heavy and sometimes information heavy. FT is also very good but expensive.

But these are for stock and forex trading and also for commodities like gold and silver trading. For bitcoin and altcoin trading we must need to follow crypto currency based news and magazines for quick update. For altcoin trading, we just need to follow this forum for any perfect decisions because no one will be able to get chances to cover up latest news other than bitcointalk on altcoins.

Start with google. In economy too people expect different news, so searching through google and finding the apt website that interest you is the better choice than just surfing news and information websites.

Are you looking for economy as a whole or just a certain country? It's quite different since they have different aspects. Google is your friend and you don't need to look at single site only fore regular economic updates. For a certain country you can google the country name + economy news ; For general, then just type economy news or something similar to that. There are also news site or related sites which has an option to receive daily newsletter or updates.

Ive been reading the Reuters Global Markets News section. They have some great articles.
Depending on the policies put in place when Trump becomes president, Bitcoin price may be affected. If stock markets or currencies like Chines Yuan or the US Dollar drop, investment in Bitcoin may be a good investment. Watch the stock and bond markets. Volatility there might be a good sign to invest in BTC as well.

Bloomberg and Economist are good sites to get an idea about trends and economic news in general. You can look at social media too, for real time updates. Ya i also browsing Bloomberg for reading the current economic news. But for getting what you call "first hand information" is totally hard especially when your source is only news website. You need to know someone in political sector or economic sector that can provide accurate news before its goes to public.

I would say the Economist. Wide range and interesting, more-in-depth articles.

To get an idea of economic trends in general, I think a site dedicated to finance/business will be helpful. Google and google news don't provide any insights to me in this regard.
