Blockchain.info has a feature which allows their [1] user to type some message to display on THEIR blockexplorer. This means that it is not possible for it to be shown anywhere else. If they go down, the message will too.
The other solution is using OP_return. OP_return is a script which indicates a transaction as invalid. One can include messages in hex data for up to 80bytes. You can use coinb.in to try this feature. Go to
https://coinb.in/#newTransaction and select advanced option. Remember to include another output that has hex messages as the address.
