I mean in addition to the mining done on the discrete gpus.

Would it be enough to make the a series CPUs worth the extra $ over a sempron?

Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

It would make such a small difference it wouldn't be more than a few percent, while increasing your power usage by more than that.
