Just to let you know, Virtex Canada (cavirtex.com) is 159.50$ (CAD), and raising steadily today while Gox is up 'n down...
What could cause this? Anticipation?

Sounds to me like there's demand in Canada and none of the big arbitrageurs are up and running on that particular exchange yet.

If there is something that will make Bitcoin succeed, it is growth of utility - greater quantity and variety of goods and services offered for BTC. If there is something that will make Bitcoin fail, it is the prevalence of users convinced that BTC is a magic box that will turn them into millionaires, and of the con-artists who have followed them here to devour them.

Purely anticipation. Now that the day is over, the exchange rate lowered to 155. I expect to be much lower tomorrow. People will try to sell high before the week-end dip

Thanks for the link. I'm from Canada and sure this is "interesting"... Well, the Canadian government is a pure joke. Since Harper arrived, with his western mentality, he really screwed the eastern provinces. It's much more like a Republican vs Democrat mentality now, which we pretty much avoided before he arrived. Flahartys thoughts doesn't surprise me But that's a little off-topic, isn't it Anyhow, buy has dropped to 150$, sell at 154$... It's preparing for the week-end!

There's a new Canadian exchange with 0.5% fees: https://www.libertybit.com/marketI'm hoping to move my trading there once liquidity picks up. Hopefully this will also force VirtEx to drop their crazy fees...

Prices will go through the roof everywhere as soon as another country gets "cyprused".
