Hi forum: 1DDpiEt36VTJsiJunyBc3XtG6CcSAnsQ4p
Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

Most slashdotters hate bitcoin, and that amuses me greatly. They may have technical chops, but they aren't so great at spotting the next big thing. (Like the iPod.)

Thanks for alerting us to the story post.

Haters gonna hate.

Honestly, don't bother with them, just do your best to spread the idea and the facts about Bitcoin as far and wide as possible and let the market decide for itself what to do with it. Bitcoin doesn't need our defense, it can defend itself.

My personality type: INTJ - please forgive my weaknesses (Not naturally in tune with others feelings; may be insensitive at times, tend to respond to conflict with logic and reason, tend to believe I'm always right)

They really do hate bitcoin.  I think part of the reason is all of the article posts seem like they are pumping bitcoin and therefore are 'slashvertisements'  and spam.  Most of the anti bitcoin responses involve the words tulips or ponzi.  It is kind of funny but I do recommend no more bitcoin things be posted on slashdot for a bit.

People don't understand new technology and it scares them. I was very hesitant about Bitcoins for a while, until I read up on it and carefully thought it through.

I mean, could you imagine trying to convince someone to go onto an airplane way back? People must have had so many doubts.

I think that's one of the main obstacles that will face widespread adoption of bitcoin.  I too was quite skeptical about bitcoins when my friend told me about them, but after a lot of reading I concluded that given the right circumstances and support, this could really become the next big economic change. Most of the population will not have the patience to do their own fact checking  thus the fear of the unknown and complicated may lead them to avoid something like bitcoins.  I think the best way to entice newcomers is for someone to make a very concise summary that intrigues the common man without overwhelming them with all the intricacies and mathematical jargon that most of us have read about.

I love SlashDot, I really do, but most of the Bitcoin articles have indeed been mostly advertisements, and I actually side with the SlashDotters on this one.

I'm sure most of them think it's an interesting project, especially with the cryptology aspect of it, but the impression is that it's being forced down their throats, which makes the Bitcoin community look fanatic and obsessed with a crazy idea.

I disagree.  Bitcoin is a marvel, but it's more like a really impressive and complex chess move.  Few people are even going to know how it works, let alone how to play chess.

There is a pushback against bitcoin from the slashdotters, but I see more and more people asking legitimate questions, rather than direct dismissal.

These things take time. Smiley

I starting bitcoing after seeing a few articles on slashdot. They are the right target crowd. Slahdotters have everything, many people read the hate with a grain of salt.
