Bitcointalk Secret Santa!

I did not see any thread for this, but I wonder if anyone is interested in doing secret santa with other members here?

The only problem I see is like other sites (reddit) there are many people joining but they don't send anything.
So I guess positive trust would be needed.

Any thoughts?

I could see this happen in the Collectibles (a board) community, but probably not forum wide. Not many would be willing to give out there addresses, but in Collectibles, a lot of them already know each other's addresses from selling/buying coins. Many people want to stay anonymous, and some people might hack green trust accounts to get a free gift.

I know a lot of people wouldn't Reply because they wouldnt want some random having their address (or worse, a whole list of randoms). Could it be something digital? So you buy someone a steem game and they buy someone a music album, maybe egiftcards.

Just my thoughts.

That is understandable, most bitcoin'ers love there privacy and I do agree with that. I may post in the collectibles forum.

Well, honestly I did not mean for this secret santa to have a minimum and egiftcards start at around $10, also the problem of trolls who can buy cards or steam games or any online item with a stolen debit card will just give headaches (look at that idiots on twitch who send random money "gifts" only to have the transaction reversed.) Which is why I thought a physical item would be less of a headache.

I have to think about this more, but what I wanted to personally do is send some handcrafted bitcoin items to a few users.

I will just have to put more thought into this.

I am still thinking, but would it be better to just do a giveaway? I can understand users not wanting other random users to have there address.
I just want to do something nice for the users who have been positive for bitcoin, although donating bitcoin to these people is a great idea, I am sadly pretty much poor but I love making things and I am sure people would appreciate it.

I like this idea better. So if ever people would be joining this secret Santa event, givers will have more options to give someone. But, I think not everybody will participate, though. I assumed that some people are evil and will probably just receive the gift and not give out anything. Unless you give criteria for joining, that would be better.

Giftcards like amazon or anything digital that can be used to purchase a physical item is also a good addition to steem games.
I also think that this secret santa will be fun but ofcourse you need to set a requirement so everyone participating will all send gifts and not just received theirs.

I don't think that there is any need of positive trust member because Here need of money not of green trust . If we have btc ir money then we can hire anything that we want to do to make members of this forum happy .

Maybe we should create a mechanism. Like have another amount as escrow. For example, the gift price shall be set at 0.01BTC. Everybody joining will escrow 0.01BTC and everybody will buy the gift. Everyone who gave a gift will get their escrowed bitcoin back. In the event someone doesn't gove a gift, the supposed receipient will get the amount escrow instead. Just to ensure the exercise would be fair for all.

I like this idea, but some users may not like it, but we will see. The only other problem is the fact that not many people feel comfortable giving there address. As Chris! suggested virtual gifts instead but I feel this would just be a headache (read my response to Chris!). I wonder if anyone else has any ideas/input for this, if not I may make a thread on collectibles as suggested and see where it goes.

People have given stuff in the Goods section before, where you can get everything for free, but you have to pay shipping. You could do something like that, though of course I don't know how many people would trust you with their address (I wouldn't).

So someone offers their translating services
Someone offers their graphic design services
Someone gives out an interest free loan (with their own discretion obviously)
People could advertise other people's services for free if they don't have a service to offer.
I could give out a free editing session for someone (lol woohoo! Merry Christmas! That paper will get you an A for sure!)

Services could be the answer because then if someone doesn't participate at least there is always another service that can be offered. Obviously some people's services are less popular than others (eg. I think this would be the best option since it would not need anyone's physical address and would allow for more users to join!

As posted above this could very well work on the collectables board. There are lots of sales threads posted regularly there and there are a lot of collectables going round.
The only problem I see with this is that the collectables all have different values so unless someone is willing to gift someone an expensive coin and not expect something equal in return, there'd have to be some sort of system implemented to ensure fairness with the gifts.

As @DarkStar_ has stated, I have no feedback or trust on bitcointalk  so it would make sense to get a trusted member to "host the event".

I am not sure about a site to buy and send gift items, some members have unused items or can handcraft items (like me) but if other members prefer this suggestion I am ok with it.

I have no problem making the script for this project, but I can not host the site or have access to it. I think that is fair since I am new.
