My arguments for doing this:

1. The chat is moving incredibly quickly now. I can imagine in 6 months it will actually be impossible to keep up with it, in the present structure. edit: guess it varies as now it's slow, but it's definitely too fast at times for me

2. With so many people investing into alt currencies, there is constant 'car sales man' talk on the chat. This was there before but now it's literally non-stop. It's a shame because I used to enjoy talking there but now it's almost a non-stop shouting match mixed with trash talk Embarrassed

3. If I was a newcomer who had just bought some bitcoins and was investigating alt currencies and I went onto that site, I would be put off by the stream of 'Buy Ltc!', 'No buy TRC LTC crashing', 'LITECHICKUNN!!' etc. Never used to be this bad and it doesn't create a good impression.

And I know I can hide the chat, I have just stopped reading it now...

If you are a daytrader, trollbox is great!

BTC-E couldn't survive without it... So many panic sells / buys...

I think as they get more visitors, the chat will be consuming so much resources it won't be worth it.

No they shouldn't. But they could somehow reform it, I agree.

You should add a link or button under the chat to disable it. It's too much of a hassle to use a special URL to do something that trivial.
I don't mind though since I use adblock to remove it.

Please make a post in my Reputation Thread if we've had a successful trade.

Of course friend!

What do you think about the idea of chat rooms. This would make the chat more readable and you could have a different room for each currency to avoid so much fighting and trash talking! Good idea or bad idea?

It's deterred me from investing money into the bitcoin/crypto currency economy (not that I have much to invest anyway...).  Mostly because you can tell a majority of the chatroom users are kids and/or people who know virtually nothing about investing/finances.  I'm def not an experienced investor...  But I'm friends with a banker and we talk about finances a lot, and I read a book or two on it, so I atleast know some of the financial lingo.  I'm so sick of people screaming "crash!!" for every little dip in the market.  ...And how they think a 5 month investment as long term >.< (Is that even considered short term??); that's pretty annoying too.

And what's with that chicken crap??

I spend some time there occasionally simply due to how ridiculous it is aka entertainment factor. It's gotten  a bit out of hand recently with people just shouting the same thing over and over, losing any form of purpose, civility or reason. BTC-e should definitely have a disclaimer somewhere near the trollbox warning users that the chat could be full of lies and misinfo, but that's obviously not in their interest. Overall though, stupid noob speculators looking to make a quick buck kinda deserve to be taught a lesson in investing, while smart investors will probably ignore the chat there altogether - so in the end it's not the end of the world.

If one can not confer upon another a right which he does not himself first possess, by what means does the state derive the right to engage in behaviors from which the public is prohibited?
