no unless there is a botnet of gpu and i don't think i never heard about any, botnet is used for cpu usually, so you are looking at the wrong thing

The ZCash is more efficient to mine with the CPU, so it will be controlled by botnet sooner or later if not now.

its already now!

Indeed its already now and I think that is already saying enough, its not good at all and it will be pumped and dumped soon or later..

I don't like to point fingers, but check out how many machines this guy has mining on flypool http://zcash.flypool.org/miners/t1P1erFYQGQXnAopiuKJjkfy5i69Taf35gt

It will take time for the hackers to accumulate a large botnet network to mine on Zcash and there are other coins like xmr that possibly already have a large botnet, since they have been around for a long time.

So it will probably happen over time, I mean there are probably botnets on every coin but as gpu mining becomes more effective then it will be a non issue.

I don't know what people expected here. Do you honestly thought that $1300+ price per token is gonna stay?
ZCash is altcoin with slow start, which means with time block reward will increase (instead of decreasing like BTC) and that will additionally decrease value of coin.
Slow start + only GPU, CPU mining is the design of Zcash. Of course that people would be exploiting this.

You are right. The ZCash price is below $100 now. If the trend continues, the price will be below $50.

Yeah, it's really stupid decision to select cpu friendly hashing algorithm for POW!  Botnets it's only one of possible problems, it also could to be attacked by rented cheap cloud.

Be realistic! Very soon 7245 ZEC per day will be mined. So even in case 50$ per ZEC it means over 360k$ emission every day. Who will buy out all this amount? So I think price could easily go lower.

I agree with that. In the last few days, there will burst of very high hash rate. That could be from the botnet testing.

no unless there is a botnet of gpu ........

ROFL  Grin I wouldn't put it past the bot controllers to hijack a video rendering farm or a big game studio.

There was a fairly large botnet mining Monero at one point, so a botnet mining Zcash would not be surprising.
Most miners are picked up as viruses, but since Zcash is so new, most compiled miners wouldn't be picked up yet.
That would be another reason to choose Zcash for this type of operation.
(Save time by using an already tested/ established miner without having to re-compile.)

what algo would you chose then? BTC-mining-farms are like botnets. or even worse.

The Monero is still mined by the botnet at the moment. That is the reason why the price is still quite low.

I have a feeling, OP will pull leocoin up his sleeve in this thread (as usual) and people posting here will stop posting and leave this thread (like the other threads)  Grin

It does not matter. Most people will buy the ZCash more than the Leocoin. although ZCash is not investable now.

This shit totally was becoming a shit soon. Are you think there is some wish or chance for them get pump over one btc again?
If you don't think about healing itself back to the worth over 1 btc each, and I don't either.

Zcash currently is only 56 USD, and price is going down in last week. After checking market I do not see, that price can go to 100 USD. See latest Zcash price and historical changes here - https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/zcash/.

we are talking about zcash not zcoin, and zcash has a gpu friendly algo not cpu, so botnet here can not work, unless you do aws instances with gpu, but they are not worth it like cpu, if i remember right

Zcash is potentially attackable by botnets and rented hashrate attacks. Presumably Komodo is not!

I am not vouching for @jl777's implementation of the concept. Haven't had time to check his code.

Neither of those even with millions of users (and especially if you expect them to be on mobile) will be sufficient to secure the chain against powerful attackers such as botnets with gaming rigs and hijacked Amazon EC2 or other VPS cloud accounts.

I also suggest these two References from my (yet unpublished) white paper:

⁴⁵Paul Sztorc. One Chain to Rule Them All.  Truthcoin.info blog, §Only Bitcoin’s Hashrate Stands a Chance, Mar 7, 2016.
⁴⁶Mircea Popescu. The woes of Altcoin, or why there is no such thing as “cryptocurrencies”. Trilema.com blog, Aug 16, 2014.

Also (even unprofitable) mining on CPUs enables 51% rented hashrate attacks! Kiss Monero's (and Zcash's) ass goodbye if they don't get an ASIC implementation. Komodo might possibly be a better bet because @jl777 adopted my suggestion to use Bitcoin's blockchain for security.

I am not convinced that Zcash will hit this price.
Not any time soon anyway.
it will be since the price was soaring above $500 not that long ago and when i checked yesterday it was $50 and it is definitely going down to that price once everything is settled and the hype will bomb big time pretty soon

The price dropped to $50 a few days ago. But it has since rebounded. The price is quite stable around $90 now.
