This old guy using an apparently old computer is trying to learn about improvnig mining hashrates.   I have an i7 2.8 GHz with 6 GB running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and just started pool mining with GUIMiner which shows that my hashrate over the last 12 hours or so is only about 4.5 Mhash/s.  Online sources indicate that the hashrates for ATI Radeon HD 5770 cards are between 200 - 500 Mhash/s.  What do I need to do to improve and optimize my hashrate?

FYI, I downloaded GPU Caps Viewer build 1.18.0 (March 28, 2013) and it shows the following including GPU load at 0.0% most of which I do not understand.  Would a GPU load of 0.0% not indicate that the CPU is mining at 4.5 Mhash/s instead of the GPU mining?

GPU 1: ATI Radeon HD 5770

GPU:          Juniper                          Shader:         800

sounds like the CPU is doing the mining if your using GUIMiner in the box should be "Device" it should have a little drop down menu with your CPU and the other should be your GPU select your GPU and click start

Yes, the GUIMiner DEVICE BOX shows the ONLY Device to be [0-0] Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU.  Sorry, but  I don't know how to post an image on this board.  When I click on insert image button only get "http://".

Thanks for your confirmation and suggestions, but not GPU mining not working yet.   FYI,  I have uninstalled and then reinstalled latest driver suite from ATI/AMD consisting of Display Driver ver. 9.012, OpenCL(tm) Driver ver. 10.0.1084.4, and Catalyst Control Center ver. 2012.1219.1520.27485 which also required installation of Microsoft.Net Framework 4 for AMD's Catalyst Control Center.  However the GUIMiner DEVICE box still only shows the i7 CPU as a choice.  Also, even though I have uninstalled and successfully reinstalled AMD's Catalyst Control Center which was part of the ATI/AMD driver suite, it will not run but it didn't run before either suggesting there is still a problem with the driver suite.  Guess I will seek support from AMD while awaiting other suggestions.

OK I now have Catalyst Control Center running gine and have tried with both most recent official driver ver. 9.12.0.0 and beta ver. 12.100.17.0  After AMD APP SDK ver. 2.8 would not install sample module, I also uninstalled everything related to ver. 2.8 and installed AMD APP SDK ver. 2.7 which installed without problems.  However GUIMiner DEVICE BOX still only shows i7 CPU as a device and does not show my ATI Radeon HD 5770 Jupiter GPU as an available device.  Anyone have any other suggestions to get GUIMiner to allow GPU mining?

Hi,

I tried GUIminer, but had many problems, switched to CGminer. Created a bat file with the instructions in the readme. It is works fine now without interrupts.

It shows your current clock at 157MHz, maybe you need to look into that?

Current Clock: core: 157 MHz, mem.:  300 MHz
Max. Clock:    core: 850 MHz, mem.: 1200 MHz

My Dad has a 5770 in his pc and it does 180Mh/s on dynamic intensity and 200-210 if i increase the intensity. I was just playing with it when i visited so I didn't save the settings, he asks too many questions when the fan is running at 100%  Grin

dont mean to hijack the thread but  someone mentioned 200 mhash/s to 500

ive got the same card gpuz says clock is 850mhz
and afterburner confirms that

but im only getting 129 mhash/s on average no extra flags and im using guiminer

I am certain the reason GPU Caps Viewer shows clock to be 157 MHz and 0.0% GPU load is because GPU is not running as a GUIMiner device as only the i7 CPU device is running.  I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit not XP.  I have not tried to run CGMiner, so I guess that will be my next step, but others do have Windows 7 64 bit ATI Redeon HD 5770 Juniper GPU  running as a GPU device on GUIMiner don't they?
