No, VPS is a must.
It though can work with a hosting that gives you non-root SSH shell access but should be tested with it. If your hoster company has that option and you want to try it please let me know.

Okay then this thread is no more active.
Another confirmation that coding is maybe the worst way to make money because everything you can come up with is already developed multiple times and there are several free and paid versions of any software one can imagine.
