AWS, provides a free tier for their EC2. For shitznsuch I setup ./minerd and was able to get about 5 khash/s.

Does anyone know how to implement this on a botnet type scale? Is something like this already happening?

Anyone want to set up a pool with me on this?

It's free Wink

It's free Wink

...for a year.

"When does the AWS free usage tier expire?
The AWS free usage tier will expire 12 months from the date you sign up. When your free usage expires or if your application use exceeds the free usage tiers, you simply pay standard, pay-as-you-go service rates (see each service page for full pricing details). Restrictions apply; see offer terms for more details." - http://aws.amazon.com/free/faqs/

Interesting idea, but flawed.

What a year it could be?

This would be my main concern I  suppose. "if your application use exceeds the free usage tiers"

What do you mean by implement it on a 'botnet-type scale' ? At only 5 khash/s I don't really see how these instances are useful.

You can't create multiple accounts if that's what you're thinking of, not only is it against ToS but each AWS account requires a CC on file

Yes - I suppose even if 1000 people signed up for this it wouldn't be worth it after the split. Basically I just wanted to see if there was a way to use their Amazon Elastic MapReduce (Hadoop) service across multiple accounts - to mine LTC's for free... at least for a year.  Meh - maybe I will look at bytecoins, haha.

What miner did you use? I was trying to set it up using windows instance but it's not working, can you give me some info which instance win/unix did you use?

I have an idea how we could possibly benefit from it, but just need to test first and see how the usage goes.

I used the Ubuntu 12.4 or 10 (can't remember) LTS instance with this  https://github.com/pooler/cpuminer

Looks like someone else is messing around with something similar. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=169377.0
