CoinPayments.net SCAM ** STOLE 650 BTC **

[HotSwap]

CoinPayments.net is a major SCAM, even though it has a good 'reputation.'  Mt. Gox also had a good reputation.  BitFinex had a good reputation.  CoinPayments will steal only very large amounts, making it a selective scam.  Their modus operandi is to steal the BTC then blame nebulous 'hackers' and refuse explain how such a thing could be possible.  I would NOT trust CoinPayments.net for any large amount of BTC, as they have stolen literally thousands of BTC this year.  Today they have stolen 650 btc from a client of mine.  Here are the transactions:

I told the account owner in their support ticket that they need to do a full security audit of the server, preserve all logs, etc., and report it to the appropriate authorities. We will be happy to provide the API and HTTP logs from our end showing the API requests that withdrew the funds to them as well. If the account owner gives us their permission in the support ticket we can post it publicly as well.

Time matters in these situations and I would highly recommend getting the evidence together and reporting it to the FBI cyber crimes division or your local authority ASAP versus blaming us for it. You have also made the addresses public so maybe someone in the community can help track the funds?

Just saying, 650 BTC is half a million dollars. Scamming means your company will be affected, but it won't be gone. So even if your company was worth more than half a million (I don't think it is), most people would still take the opportunity and keep the BTC

Thats a lot of BTC, I can buy cars and houses from it.

Well if its hacked, then those hackers really put a good job hacking that BTC (maybe i can get their help hacking some for me) just kidding.haha. But I think hacking that is a really hard work.

If it is stolen by them, I hope they will stop because many people will stop trusting them because of what they have done, or maybe they have stolen from the old members and they now stole it from the new members that didnt know that the are stealing BTC. We must be really careful on which people we will trust our BTC.

For someone to allege they have had 650 BTC stolen from them and then, in the middle of their scam accusation, thoughtfully provide a recommendation for a better payment processor, I thought a little strange.

It became a little less strange when I looked back thru HotSwap's trust rating here and remembered the Moriarty connection, where 125 BTC was stolen by Moriarty from Rick James, thru his mixer Bitlaunder.com.

Then Fogpay turned up here



Tl,dr: HotSwap, a BCT account shown to likely be owned by the known scammer Moriarty, who owns payment processor sites, opens a scam accusation with no concrete proof against a competitor, and then recommends his own alternative processor in the middle of the accusation.

Perfectly reasonable.

There is no way to reverse a Bitcoin transaction, since the withdrawals were made with legitimate API keys and are confirmed in the blockchain there is no way to get those funds back. We have been in communication with the actual account holder and gave them detailed instructions on how to report the theft to the authorities and improve their website and account security going forward.

I have dealt with the owner of coinpayments and he is a good guy even did business with coinpayments, if he was a scammer he would have done it long ago. Building a reputable business in the long haul is much more important than thefts which he understands will ruin his business (which imo is worth alot more than 650 BTC in todays value).

You could know about this risk upfront by reading the Terms & Conditions/Refund Policy.

CoinPayments is excellent company.
Whoever keeps online (or on desktop computer connected to internet) more than a couple of hundred dollars in BTC I consider not serious about his/her own protection. Thats why hard wallet exist.

This is why, I'm leaning towards using a service provider that sends bitcoins straight to your wallet like Mycelium Gear or Blockonomics.
