Hi, im trying to setup a business that accepts bitcoin and i'd like to lock the price into the mtgox 24hr weighted avg at the time of sale. How can i find what the 24hr avg was at that time?

Most automate the process with software. If you are taking orders and then processing payments by hand: have your software lookup the price at the time of sale and record that number for you to check later. Most people take it one step further and have it automatically put in an instant sell order to sell those coins for USD at the current price.

But how do i look back at what the 24hr average was at a certain point of time? This is what i will need to tell my customers to exchange for, so i will need to be able to go back and make sure they sent the correct amount.

http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#rg60ztgSzm1g10zm2g25zv

Check the "custom time" box (below the "time period" menu on the top left) and select time you want to look at. Chart types, moving averages, and technical indicators can be selected from the various drop down menus on the top right.

Is the mtgox 24hr avg simple, exponential, triangular or weighted? and is the box next to it for hours?

It depends on what data you are looking for specifically.  All give the "average price" within a certain time period, they just do it on different scales (simple, exponential, triangular or weighted).

Do you want to see the Mean price? Closing price? Weighted price? Typical price? Those options are in the "chart type" menu.

If none of that makes sence to you, start reading: http://www.investopedia.com/university/technical/

You really should be pulling the raw data from MtGox API and calculating it automatically but ...

http://bitcoincharts.com/t/trades.csv?symbol=mtgoxusd&start=1365379200&end=1365465599

Shows all trades in the 24h hours prior to 04/08/13 23:59:59 UTC.

Multiply each trade (BTC amount trades * Price) to get USD value of trade.
Take sum of USD values.
Take sum of BTC value.
USD/BTC = 24hr VWAP.
