I am looking for a Monero lightweight GUI wallet like Electrum for Bitcoin. Is there such thing out there, if not then why?

Also is it possible to do offline transactions and sign them offlie but broadcast them online without needing to download the entire blockchain.

I see that the webwallet doesnt accept new people, so Its really hard to use this currency now. Please help.

There is a light wallet available but that isn't that good as the full Monero client. Had before also some questions about it so I quoted this for you.

Monero light wallet: https://github.com/jwinterm/LightWallet2/releases
Monero thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.0

I was searching for a good Monero wallet and wonder what the best option is. I did check https://getmonero.org/getting-started/choose but wonder if the full Monero client isn't too big for a windows laptop. The other options are light wallet but that one isn't updated for a while and the web wallet from https://mymonero.com/. There is also a Monero wallet available in the App Store and google playstore created by freewallet.org.

What advice do you guys have for me when I want a good working wallet.

I actually just updated lightwallet a few weeks ago, but maybe I forgot to update that link. You can find latest release here:

https://github.com/jwinterm/LightWallet2/releases

Lightwallet has very limited functionality, but should be working now. Afaik the cli wallet, lightwallet, and mymonero are your only options. But, just FYI, you can the monero-wallet-cli in remote node mode, then you don't need to d download the blockchain (this is actually what lightwallet does under the hood).

Jaxx will probably have Monero integration in the next couple weeks or maybe a month.
A few more months for an official GUI wallet probably.
I'm sure someone here knows the approximate dates.

...

Can't wait that much, the price is going up too fast.... I hope i really gets out before spring.

The choice here seems to be either wait for the various GUIs to come out and Monero is easier to use, or to not wait and learn some of the GNU commands otherwise known as the Linux command line. The questions that an investor or speculator have to consider are: What will the impact of one or more Monero GUIs be on Monero's price? What is the likelihood of one or more Monero GUIs being released and when? Making a profit does require some effort.  Wink

If the choice is to learn some of the GNU commands then the following site may be of help. http://linuxcommand.org/

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Seems like no Monero support in Jaxx so far. Any news?

Now that the official GUI is out and Jan hard fork is past Lightwallet2 no longer works so there is no lightweight wallet for Monero. Jaxx is a possibility but I will believe it when I see it.

A question, now that the gui is out, there is a way to solo mine with gpu? if i had many gpu and don't want to go with a pool, i remember that in the past there was no way to do it, you were obligated to run a server proxy or soemthing and emulate your own pool to do it, it was very complicated, it could be good if they fixed this issue, also another issue was about having multiple address in a wallet, they fixed that too?

There were rumors late last year that jaxx.io wallet will add Monero in their list of accepted cryptocoins. A third party light wallet would be a good sign for the project because it is a sign that it is recognized. So far there are no updates but hopefully the jax.io developers are still working on it.

How big is monero's blockchain right now, anyway?

From what I know it is very hard to create SPV wallets for monero because secure design of this coin is hard to transfer to SPV environment.
There is technical difficulties to keep your privacy on the level of full node wallet. If you are Monero user then the best option is still using Monero Core.

That will hamper the growth of its user base, if 3rd party developers have a hard time creating an SPV wallet for Monero. Maybe that is the reason why the Jaxx wallet was not able to add XMR in a timely manner. I hope they are still working on it now.

Why not just use the Electrum source code?

You know how there is Electrum Dash, Electrum Litcoin, and even Electrum Siacoin. Why not Electrum Monero?

That would be the best approach in my opinion.

Monero is not a bitcoin clone is why. Jaxx thought it would be easy to whip up an SPV wallet for Monero and got a surprise.

I did saw one Jaxx developer on Monero IRC about a week or two ago, so that is a good sign. It seems they found it.
I dont think a solo mining is such an important thing that next GUI release should be rushed. It will be out few weeks after it will be perfectly tested.

It's the electrum server that has to be redesigned to support Monero, not the client. The client can probably easily be modified in 1 day, by just copy pasting the wallet generation code, and the transaction code.

The server is what needs more work.
