Hi Guys,

Im looking to get a new mining rig with 3 x 7950's in their but before i spend all that money I would like some advice on what motherboard and power supply to go with.

If anyone can make some recommendations that would be great.

Look forward to hearing from people with experience  Smiley

Me and a few friends are in the process of building a rig, we've gone for 7950s too. Chosen this motherboard:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASRock-970-EXTREME3-Extreme3-Motherboard/dp/B005POPRG8/ref=pd_ybh_3

Still need processors, power supply, RAM (2.0GB?) and risers. Not sure about a case at the moment.

Anything we've missed?

I have 2 coolermaster PS and no problem.

1000 is barely ok for 3 7950 so if you whant to add more later go for a bigger one or add a second PS later

No motherboard support 5 pxie*16, at max you have 4, then you use riser1*16 cables to fit into a pcie*1 slot  Grin

You're a fool to be mining with gpus at this point unless you already have at least 10gh running.

@ar9: I'm using 1x5970 1 x5870 1x 5850 and 1x7950 which is 5 gpus on an Asrock 970 Extreme 3.
No powered risers.Super stable build board ..optimal layout for mining which made it -and still makes- it very popular among miners.Need I say more ?

I do not suggest the ASRock w/ 3 PCIE for 3X7950's they simply do not fit. there is not enough room at the bottom of the board to fit all 3 cards and have your jumpers connected.

I run 1200W Power Supply with 3 7950 with no issues.

I run 3x5970 and one 5830 inside the same rig, using MSI GD65 motherboard, so with your logic it is actually 7 GPUs on the same motherboard, I tried to stick another 5830 in there, but that didn't work - windows just refuses to get those cards configured correctly.

I'm using 1200 Thermaltake PSU for entire rig, which was enough for entire setup with 1250 at the wall mining BTC.

Once I switched to LTC, the system just refused to stay up once GPU # 4 was switching to LTC from BTC, so I had to add another PSU at 620W.

2 smaller PSUs would be actually cheaper then a monster PSU at 1800 or 1650.
