So, I was just lurking on the interwebs, and it turns out theres a political candidate that accepts bitcoins... Is this legal? He says that it is legal as long as he returns any surplus over $5000USD in donations from a single transaction number.

Is there any reason people would want to do this? Send bitcoins to a political candidate and then get all their bitcoins back that were over $5000? He also said, if you use the words "discount" in a verified message to him, he will give back any surplus above $2500. I'm not even sure what any of this means or why people would even want to do this or what advantage any of this has. He says he's been able to accept bitcoins since before the regulations were passed on March 18th and that he has been "grandfathered" into the system and that he is now the only political candidate that can do this legally.

I figured it out! If you send him all your bitcoins, he is REQUIRED BY LAW to send you all your coins back minus the $5000, so this means if you were doing illegal things, he is legally bound to send you those coins back! And it's a government agency! Holy crap. I DO know what this means... Wish I had that many bitcoins to send this guy! The higher bitcoins go, the more money you get back!

I figured it out! If you send him all your bitcoins,
He will immediately change the Bitcoin address on his site (e.g. to an alternative address that received some small donations in the past). And when you make your claim, he says "what bitcoins?"

He might, but that wouldnot be very good if he isn't anonymous, now would it? That kind of problem only happens if he is hiding and has no accountability.
