Wikileaks now accepts bitcoin donations: https://twitter.com/#!/wikileaks/status/80774521350668288 Wikileaks performs a great service for society by making governments and companies more transparent. The fact that anyone can now donate to them without having their payments disabled is a big, big deal. Hopefully more organizations that attack the corrupted status quo will also begin accepting bitcoin donations. This is good for the acceptance of bitcoin. We often imagine that bitcoin needs to have merchants first, in order for people to have a reason to use bitcoins. But it can work the other way around too. Having lots of people with bitcoins can pressure more merchants into accepting them. With more organizations like Wikileaks accepting bitcoins, this pressure on merchants is increased.

government hates em, but people love em. Considering this is the people's currency, I'm not worried about the government hating them. They can't control my donations anymore anyways

Seems to have taken a rise just now. Was just 18.13, now is 19.64.

Why wouldn't they accept btc donations? In the worst case, it means they make zero money. It's not like people are going to donate with bitcoin instead of USDs.

That's assuming they cash out to USD before the bubble bursts

Oh god, I hope the Wikileaks people are smart enough to know not to spend all that money at once to keep some kind of value with it. Maybe spreading it back through different BTC based stores and what not for things they need.

Sweet bananas! Good commercial, and even sweeter that we can now donate via BTC. HEH! They say it's a currency without enough merchants and services, yet I keep spending.....
