There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

I would wait for transaction of +1000000 BTC appearing in my full-node wallet with 1 confirmation and then it might be good enough to proceed I doubt they can successfully double-spend that after confirms appear.

But if the mud monkeys really have 1 lemon of BTC? Owning 1/21 of total world internet wealth will make one a extremely wealthy person.

Well quick, you better go scam it from them. Bet you they'll give it to you for just a few hundred thousand USD.

OMG. Let bitcoin enter mainstream. I can imagine so many people getting scammed. The most funny one and should definitely work: send BTC to x address, and after an hour, you will received twice as much.
