I am thinking of adding another mining rig. Unfortunately, I don't have any more space / amps left in the room that I use as my home office. The only place left is the bedroom, but I need to be able to sleep too!

I already have a setup with 2 x 6970 (reference design with 1 fan), and there is no way I could sleep through the noise. I also have a 2 x 5830 which seems just as loud. What I want to know is if anyone has tried mining with the 2 or 3 fan 6970 cards? Are they significantly quieter than the reference cards?

If so, any particular model you could recommend?

Thanks.

depends on the model. Reference designs are usually quite loud, especially the hamster wheel style fans. Non-reference coolers, like the ones that sapphire or asus makes are a quieter. The best advice i can give you is go to review sites, and compare the decibels (db) of each card. I would want to keep it below 70 db. which is the "EPA-identified maximum to protect against hearing loss and other disruptive effects from noise, such as sleep disturbance, stress, learning detriment, etc." (wikipedia)

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Also, keep in mind that unless you have some cooling setup, it can get pretty hot. Practically got heatstroke a while back :\
