Doesn't heatware have a policy for opening up so many accounts?

He probably uses many other aliases as well.

that OP looks quite familiar.

I wish people wouldn't copy me word for word like that...

I know, it was a good idea.  Wink

But still... I hope no one got scammed...

I thought the name looked familiar but wasn't sure.  I do frequent Anandtech and HardForums.  Yeah I would just shut the thread down at this point.

How can you be expected to host a group buy when you're not sure how to check a wallet?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=173502.0

Don't bite off more than you can chew.  You never know what some of the forum members will do if you piss them off  Shocked

Nice plan, but would be better to wait and see what Avalon does - as Darklore said - there will not be Avalon Batch #4 and that info is directly from Avalon.

Seems by now, Avalon miners are having a large percentage of whole computation power. If still no other competitior jump in, it will be highly possibility that they will not produce batch #4.

Why would they stop making them? They have the production lines etc. paid for - they might as well keep making them as long as there are people willing to pay. They might have to reduce the price per unit a bit or something in the future, due to the lower return as the difficulty continues to ramp up or if we get new competition (hopefully!).

IMO the only thing would be is if they decided to stop production for a while to build a second generation - like a different technology node for the ASICs or tweaks for speed or power improvements. But if anything they can work on that concurrently while continuing to ship.

You do know there's not too many people working there right?  I'm sure everybody there is doing 2 or 3 jobs unlike BFL where they're doing 0.2 or 0.3 jobs per person   Wink

Let me give you a couple pointers of things I learned in the aftermath of my group buy.

1. Lay out your terms as specifically as possible
 - How long will you host the devices?
 - What happens when they become unprofitable?
 - Can people transfer interest and what rules are there for this? (I advise against this.. it makes a huge accounting mess as I am learning.)
 - Make sure everyone knows you are not and will not guarantee any profits and each person is investing at their own risk, and that by sending you money to order the Avalons they already understand this.
 - Will you merge mine any coins? which ones?
 - Will you go solo? overclocking?
 - Which pool will you use? (if you do)

2. Go ahead and make some forums somewhere so you can keep everybody up to date and everything organized. Have users PM you on bitcointalk their email they register on the forums with, so that you can verify their identity. Only allow the verified group posting privileges, otherwise spam bots show up.

3. If any extra expenses are required, let it be known (rent/power conditioners/240v PDUs/C13 to C14 cables/electricity to run the A/C, etc).

4. You can use https://github.com/csjones/sharebitcoins to make dividend payments easily.

Just really make sure to think through your terms before collecting money. Also, from experience I think 3% is too low a percentage. I wish I had charged more because it takes a lot of time and effort to manage 87+ investors. Also, you will receive your units much later than I will and difficulty will be higher. Do not get locked into doing this for a penny per month, because you will hate it.

Good luck!

It seems like Avalon might not make a Batch 4.

I think them selling chips in bulk is their way of saying that they;re not going to do a Batch 4.

Agreed. I think that was the plan all along, to bulk sell chips. Avalon doesn't seem too interested in dealing with end-users.
