I see alot of people talking about buying and selling bitcointalk accounts, is this allowed to do?
It seems that there is a bit of confusion whether or not it is morally ok to do?

Are there any specific rules about this subject? if so, where can i find them? Curious to know!

It's something okay to do and not against the rules but not really recommended .

From the unofficial rules :
"Q: I saw a guy selling Bitcointalk accounts. Why is that allowed?
A: Since we can't effectively prevent these sales (proxies, TOR, sales in other forums), we don't because otherwise we would be giving the users a false sense of security."

EDIT : checking this , this and this It could give you a better idea while checking moderators and other members opinions about this matter.

Yes it is allowed, although it is frowned upon by some. For more info go here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303414.msg3269475#msg3269475

It is mainly frowned upon because often these accounts end up spamming for signature profits.

If you maintain a high quality of posting and don't start spamming, most people will be able to look past buying an account.

Most important when either buying or selling is to use an escrow. Better safe than sorry, especially when it is a high ranked account.

Yes it is accepted as others have mentioned, but not uncommon for purchased accounts to be used in Scams. However, it makes sense in certain situations for people to leverage their account's value to gain capital (loan collateral) or to speed up the process for moving up ranks.

There's also Companies with BitcoinTalk accounts that may sell their company one day and include the forum account and social media profiles with the acquisition.

So what is not forbidden its allowed, but i wouldn't do that.
Selling/buying acc is shady business because as others mentioned acc's are often used for scams.

Actually, mods need to act up somehow. When this account selling keeps going on, in a year (or something more), being hero or legendary will mean nothing. Its just a title without honor when its being used for spamming and scamming.

As stated, dealing in accounts is allowed.  However, this has led to a number of scams from accounts that had green trust and high status.

I've been negging everyone who deals in accounts, with some exceptions where the users have demonstrated previous trustworthy actions.  I'm not on DT, so my trust doesn't matter, I do this for myself.  Something has to be done about this, and someone needs to act.  Since account sales are not going to be banned by the forum admins, we peon users have to act.  It's definitely, definitely frowned upon here.

When looking to all the complains in ur trust list, you are doing a good job.

Or being bought & then used to facilitate a scam which is much worse.

Others have already answered ur Q, but...............Why do ya need rules about Buying/Selling an account? In my opinion, BCT is a great community and there is no reason to actually buy or sell accounts, except if you wanna scam someone off or trying to gain in sig campaigns with high trust and/or rank. If neither of that you can slowly build ur trust and a presence by sharing and learning with community. In my opinion it is absurd to buy/sell BCT accounts since it depreciates the community and really impact the no. genuine members
