I think this would be really useful for your thread. https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

Though I think you have that already. That's where I found out some of the hardware wallets available. I drool over then, but don't have the funds yet to buy one. I would say the trezor is the nices one there next is the keepkey. Hope someone gives a good review about these hardware wallets. Good luck with that thread OP!

Cool OP! I'd like to see that. There aren't many people doing this on youtube. If you do the unboxing yourself are you also willing to sell those you opened for cheaps?  Grin

Anyway, I'd like to really see this. So I can also decide which one to buy.

Unboxing videos will be good to be added and also can't find trezor on the above list i think you will add it later. I am also looking to buy some under 50$ hardware wallet with international shipping hope your list will help me to choose one that suits me.

it would be great if you could find out when each of these were released, for example add a field saying how long they have been around (1 month? 1 year? or 7)

and thanks for making this topic.

I contact Ledgerwallet and I asked them for the information's and they was happy to provide them (I added them to the OP) and same thing for the units sold , I guess that would help users to choose which one to buy based on other peoples choice.

No worries , as you assumed ... I will be adding more and more overtime , I just want to gather enough information's first.

I am not home at hardware wallets, so sorry if it's a dumb question, but if I look at the integrations I don't see an option for Bitcoin Core? Why is that?

I am asking this because I want to buy something different as a Christmas present to a non Bitcoiner. Hardware wallet is an interesting option.

BSV is not the real Bcash. Bcash is the real Bcash.

Looks nice list, good work there omega, looking forward for the reviews and unboxing. Also a bit of a suggestion after you are done adding more wallets to the list, it would be nice if you make a comparison table.

...

OmegaStarScream

Have used both the Nano and the newer Nano S?  I ask this because I have two Nano units but am curious to know whether the "S" is worth the extra money it costs.  Perhaps it is more convenient or easy-to-use?

I have been reasonably happy with my Ledger Nanos.

* * *

Happy as well with my (more expensive) Trezor.  I look forward to comparative comments re hardware wallets.

Nice job!

I think the Ledger Nano S might be better than the Ledger Nano. I think the addition of a screen for confirmation is nice and also inclusion of support for other coins than bitcoin is nice also for traders and people who use these altcoins together with bitcoin. I would say though, the Ledger Nano is better regarding easy plugging in to a PC because it is like a USB flash drive and you don't need a cable to connect the device which I think is nice.

Maybe you can share with OP your experience with your Ledger Nano and Trezor. That would help OP and the community.

OP found this thread with great video review regarding another hardware wallet "keepkey" and also price of it seems reasonable with great feature to support altcoins and in app exchange between bitcoin/alts with shapeshift integration. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1712681.0

Also it seems you forget to add https://www.ledgerwallet.com/products/3-ledger-hw-1 which is one of the cheapest hardware wallet from ledgerwallet.

It's pretty much UP to the developers of the wallet (Bitcoin core in this case) to add or not to add the support for a specific hardware  wallet and It has nothing to do with the hardware wallet Itself. I guess Bitcoin Core developers doesn't care much about new features in the wallet as much as they do about developing the bitcoin network Itself.

I haven't them used them personally but from what I see , there isn't much of a difference except that It has support for Ethereum and different altcoins as well but no worries , after compiling the list with all hardware wallets , I will add comparisons as suggested.

Re the Trezor and the Ledger Nano, below are my comments (I have used both devices well over 10 times each, receiving and sending).

Trezor

I once had to update "firmware".  I had always avoided it, but a time came when I could not use the device until I did update.  The update went fine.  I still use the Trezor from time-to-time.  I still like the Trezor better than the Ledger Nano.

Ledger Nano

In general, I like it almost as much.  But, when I decided to update the firmware on this device (just today I decided to do it), I needed the QR code from my recovery sheet (which is elsewhere).  My BTC are still safe.  I sent some OUT from the Nano "just in case".  Note: I have a pretty early version of the Nano I believe.

* * *

The firmware updates (both devices) always make me feel a little queasy...

That is one reason why I would like to hear if anyone has (and has used) the digitalbitbox:

https://digitalbitbox.com/faq

I like the whole "minimalist" idea, though the device looks more complicated than when I first read about it.

I received an answer from Trezor and they won't be able to provide with the number of units sold , I added them to the list with the information's I have till now

@OROBTC  I appreciate the reviews but I will be making another thread soon (about hardware reviews to keep this one clean), so If could write an in-depth review about the wallets , that would be great.

I received an answer from KeepKey and I have added everything about except the number of units sold (they refused to provide them like Trezor did)

I'd really appreciate If someone used any of hardware wallet before and could give us his honest review here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1720884.new#new (I will be linking this thread here once we get enough hardware wallets and enough reviews/feedbacks).

I would suggest you add the Ledger HW1 because it is the cheapest hardware wallet (as far as I know)
And I would make to each of them best value rating in stars or something similar, what do you think?

I took this in consideration and I asked people to give ratings when they make their review on my other thread , when enough reviews are collected I will be listing them here.
As for the HW1 then I will be adding it soon , I just have to email Ledger again to get some information's.

KeepKey twitter and some emails has been hacked so I advice you to not simply follow instructions given by them In case they send you an email , check the integrity of it first.

I will be updating this thread more frequently. I'm bringing this up because a lot have changed since I made this topic, multibit is no longer supported, Trezor is now selling a new model etc. Feel free to suggest anything.
