This question is bugging me for some time now.
Is't it obvious that only scammers will open such thread and delete everything not in their favor?

Today's example:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1708445.0

Ok, so guy is selling cheap aws code, let me ask him a question.
Quote
Do you accept escrow/send it first or agree to redeem it on my account via TeamViewer?

5 minute later:

New Personal Message: Deleted Post

And I'm sure his alts are "LastShip", "Windows11" etc...

It just doesn't make any sense to allow newbies open self moderated thread, specially when it comes to trading digital goods.
Feels to me like bitcointalk is protecting scammers from being exposed.

Anyone can self-mod a thread in there and the argument is people should be responsible for their own trades, not staff, but I definitely think we could make some sort of changes or restrictions because things are being massively abused by scammers. Many scammers are just coming back alt after alt on new accounts, self-modding threads and trying to scam with cheap autobuy links. Most people aren't stupid enough to send these people their money but many also are especially other newbies or people coming to this site from google or whatever. I don't think removing the ability to self-mod in there would be a bad thing, or especially for lower ranked members as it's mostly just abused by scammers straight outta the gate. I think maybe not allowing external links for newbies should also be considered or perhaps implementing a redirect notice for when users click a link urging them to double check the url and warning them of the dangers of buying things from autobuy sites and that they should likely consider using a trusted escrow if they're not already etc.

People can't do a background check on sellers if sellers are allowed to delete posts.
Scammers would be exposed by other people/buyers/sellers, not staff.

Other than that I completely agree with you and hope it will be changed in the future.

I'm only active in trade section for few weeks and already see a pattern. I'm sure some buyers gets burn, otherwise scammers wouldn't make alt after alt and try to scam new people. Problem is not only with autobuy links, but also PM trading. They offer great discounts, only if I send the money first. The offer is sometimes so good it's hard to resist, specially with zero negative feedback in thread. Or should I say, deleted neg feedback.

Open up a thread in Scam Accusations/Reputation and others can leave feedback if necessary. They can't delete that.

I think self moderated thread that will create by newbies must be restricted so that they cannot delete any feedback on them.maybe this is not a good solution but i think it well help to reduce scam on trading.specially for the good buyers.
