Bitcoin is not really anonymous. The real question is, what do you want to do? Do you want to buy loads of bitcoin to hide your money? In that case, create a paper wallet, send all your Bitcoin to the paper wallet address, hide your private key in a safe place until you want to get access to your Bitcoin. Do you want to engage in secret transactions? Well, the block chain will have a record of your transaction, but there may not be a way to link some particular address to you. Just run bitcoin-qt on your and never make any of your addresses public, and if you do use an address, create another for the next transaction.
