"You have $1M to invest across bitcoin and ether. You cannot touch your investment for the next 5 years. How much of that $1M do you invest in each? Why?"

The teams were required to put forward an analytical paper and a 5 minute video announcing their decision and explaining the logic behind it. The participants considered technical differences, governance, community values, among other key factors to reach a sound investment strategy that can create long-term profit based on their analysis.

The future seems foggy for both cryptocurrencies. However, the submissions were composed of Bitcoin-dominant portfolios, with only three of the thirteen proposals favoring Ether as a long term investment. Only one of the teams decided to put all their chips on Ether, as the majority candidates all settled on a diversified portfolio.

You don't even need a portfolio. Anything other than 100% Bitcoin is irrational. Bitcoin has the largest network effect by far. It will draw in most talent and capital. Like all altcoins, Ether is extremely speculative and risky (it even forked). All the altcoins are barely used in the real world - they're just traded against Bitcoin.

When picking an altcoin for investment, you can be lucky. But I wouldn't bet on it. 5 years is a long period of time in the crypto world. Maybe Ether doesn't even exist in 5 years.

isn't this old news? i swear i've heard this a couple of months ago when Ethereum was being pumped?

anyways, as i said back then if i am forced to invest all of it, i would invest in bitcoin unless it is back then and ethereum is in the hype and is getting pumped. in that case i would invest a big chunk of it in ether because there was a good profit back then in that pump. but not today, now it is all bitcoin.

also the investment is only good as long as you can pull out, i don't even agree with the criteria it is setting "invest for 5 years" that is stupid no matter what you are investing in (eth, btc, gold, stock,....)

Not a big deal. If I have $1M to invest I will not bother about ETH or any other coins even for 1%.

Five years plan must be based on only bitcoins as I have not seen any altcoin is sustaining and maintaining its popularity for long periods. They get fade away once a new coin is introduced. ETH will be replaced in near future. Considering it as a long term investment must be a suicidal imho.
