I'm sure Mtgox is doing their best, but they seem to be a bit over their head right now given Bitcoin's explosion and the resulting hacks,DDoS, lags, confirmation queues that they have had to deal with. As if all that wasn't enough, and they didn't provide enough systematic risk to Bitcoin's ultimate fate, they now want to add some altcoins to the exchange.

What we need at this point is some stability and order, and Mtgox for some reason is about unleash some more chaos into the system through a bunch of untested, unrecognized, and highly fringe altcoins that most without a stake in the matter believe to be non-beneficial to the general acceptance of cryptocurrencies at this point.

Maybe if enough of us voice our displeasure at this poorly timed decision by Gox, they might perhaps delay introducing altcoins to a time when the system, infrastructure, and general acceptability of cyrptocurrencies is more in order.

Write 'signed' if you agree that now is not the best time for Mtgox to introduce such a feature.

Signed.

And I'm a supporter of litecoin but think Mt Gox has enough on its plate right now, just as the OP said.

BTC-E is doing like 4M a day in trades of litecoin, I don't think your petition is going to stop mtgox from making hundreds of thousands of dollars a day extra. Any CEO should be fired if they deny those profits because someone on some forums thinks its a bad idea.

I am all for alt-coins (let the free market sort the winner), but mtgox should get their shit together first.

Their trading engine is bad there's no other way to say it. Real world exchanges routinely process billions of trades per minutes.

Do they even know about the lag? They seem to be proceeding with all these other projects, while neglecting the underlying fact: if mtgox doesn't work as an exchange, then it doesn't matter if i can access it on my phone, or if i can buy Trollcoin there.

The other exchanges must be preying that they do this.

I'm kind of hoping that they do, if only to quicken their demise and get a better run exchange to market leader.

I don't agree.

They absolutely need to get their shit together first, but I'd like to see them get Litecoin going by the summer.  They're going to be overtaken by some other company quite quickly if they don't.  The market has a demand for multiple coins.

+1. Without litecoins, they are forcing me to go back to fiat if I want to get out of the bitcoin game for a little bit while things cool off. On BTC-e, I can swap into litecoins, wait, then get back into bitcoins when i'm ready. That's only one of the benefits of having altcoins, it needs to happen on Gox.

common sense.

look at the stability issues going on right now and its affect on btc price.

i would rather have btc growth over "altcoin" growth.

I agree the lag is ridiculous but its been going on for quite some time, you either trade around it or move to another exchange, why pay 5% for 30 min delays?

I don't find this a brilliant idea at least in this form.
If Mt Gox has already taken some efforts to implements alternative currencies then it would be a waste of time to stop it.
Imagine that 1-2 developer where assigned and are already working on this implementation. How frustrating must be for them if their chef is saying that their work is suspended and no more required. Somebody who developed can understand this.
It's like your wife brings to you a glas of wine(or juice) and you don't drink it just smashing to the wall. Better if you taste it at least and you say that you will drink it later.
But to make for them easier let us say them to implement only namecoin first because this alt-currency brings really something new.
When namecoin exchange is already working by Mt Gox without problems then this small developer team  could implement the next alternative currency. (for ex litecoin)
I think this would be a more reasonable.
Don't worry, the prices will rise again. Probably the Russian mafia attacks the network again to buy cheaper bitcoins.
