Bitcoin have just dropped $20 in less than an hour. What happened ?

I have gone for business in about 45 minutes and  1BTC = $870. When I came back home and check the bitcoin prices, It dropped to $850. What just happened ? Can anyone tell me ? I have checked the cointelegraph and coindesk and still no result.

Someone sold more than there was buy orders and price dropped untill all was sold. Now price is going up as people are taking opportunity and buying cheaper coins.

Yes it is normal to see things like this, someone needs to cash out to book a profit.  This is called trading, and now what, people are enjoying the cheaper coins from those who dump coins (exiting and taking profit) pushing the price downward.  Then price will slowly go up again because the dump coins is now being consumed by people getting in before the next price increase.

You're a Hero Member, what have you been doing the entire time you've been here? $20 swings either way don't mean much.
In this case we've gone up quite a lot in a short amount of time so people are taking profits & selling hence the drop.

first of all you should re-think your topic subject because it is wrong. you are looking at it the wrong way. price has gone up nearly $75 in the past 24 hours and now it has come down $17

and if you look at the charts it has always been like this, when price goes up there is a little back-track because people sell and price has to see a correction.

in short nothing out of the ordinary.

There is nothing much to discuss on $20-$30 price dump or pump, price was pumping really hard in last few days and it is quite normal to see some correction after huge pump. Price may get some correction before we see another price pump.

Better to Hold tight whatever you have.

Relax mate, $20 dollar drops are nothing in bitcoin.... dont sit and watch the screen all day, store your bitcoin safely and everything will be fine, come back in the new year to see record highs.......

why do people like to judge someone like that? I have just asked a question and you guy only discuss about my experience. Honestly, I want to ask because in a few day ago Bitcoin is so stable and it only really makes me confused why in less than 45' Bitcoin price drop 20$.

maybe its just normal condition in the market and we know this, i hope the price will be back soon and will increase than before. better you don't have to get panic selling too because its not good for you and i think you can wait for a little time to see the price will be back in the right path.

I agree, thanks for the information. Well someone may not be patience enough to hold their Bitcoin after its price has gone up nearly $75. I guess we will all have a happy Christmas

I am not panic so don't worry. I will keep my Bitcoin until it has reached at least $1000. It will be back soon, I can ensure about that, just a little confused about the fluctuation in the price

I think that Bitcoin increase of 4 reasons:
1. The need to use Bitcoin currency is rising
2. In a large number of countries are gradually accepting Bitcoin
3. The number of investors has increased Bitcoin, the reason no one has been lost due to poor security Bitcoin, except for users to expose private keys for hackers
4. At the Stock Exchange Bitcoin is growing strongly in the major countries, especially China, which has significant impact to the world!

and also i have to add while i agree with all of these but these reasons are only contributing to the gradual rise of bitcoin price and none of them are explaining this recent rise.

That is true for about 90% of the content in this section, unfortunately.
If we are rising, there are 4-5 new topics about price rising to $2k or beyond in the next month, similar if we are dropping, there are plenty topics about how useless Bitcoin is, and that its price goes to zero.
Take it as it is, I've lost any hope for any improvements in this matter.
