IT APPEARS THE NEW "FIX" has just created wild swings

WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO SWAP TO BTC RE-TARGET CODE EVEN AS AN INTERIM

I HAVE ONLY BE YELLING THIS IN CAPS FROM THE ROOF TOPS FOR THE LAST SEVERAL DAYS

BTE HAS JUST PROVED THAT THE BTC CODE WORKS IN THIS REGARD

EDIT  I CAN SEE DEV IN GIT HUB he commented
// failed attempt ; amplified spikes effects...

Today we had yet another wild ride of TRC difficulty.

I decided to close TRC pool until difficulty swings issue is solved.

The thread you linked has a bunch of questions that were left unanswered and Sunny King pointed out that there are problems with the coin. I don't think that's the best solution either. TRC is kinda fucked,

The linked thread clearly records, that BTE had a huge Hash pointed at it withdrawn and it was ok in a few hours, and this is not the first time this has happened to BTE, at one point BTE had 10% of BTC hash pointed at it and it was okay after that left.

This is proof that BTC re-target works

Things appear to have .. synced back up.

tx now confirmed and showing in blockexplorer

Also blockexplorer now shows the missing blocks.

Smiley BTE recovered a lot faster than TRC did.

I like em both, and would love to help people exchange them for each other.

For like the eleven millionth time- I am not the TRC DEV. Talk to him about it!

The difficulty swung like crazy- (Asic on and off for fun?) but is there any reason to think that wild difficulty swings are a bad thing?

EDIT:

Wild seems to be relative. Litecoin has difficulty swings- over the course of days, but it has them. It doesn't break anything. Why would really fast difficulty swings be bad? Any one have clear facts as to why this is bad? I've heard lots of "because its bad!" but no one has said exactly why it's bad.

That said- I too am disappointed. I'm not rationalising, but the point of TRC was to experiment with Bitcoin, and we are experimenting. It's gone quite awry, but it's not beyond the point of being saved.

um

1)pretty sure btc-e is corrupt and manipulating the markets.  they ban me for really suspiscious reasons.  not spamming, just posting links to threads with important info on them

2)are we going to pirate terracoin into trollcoin?  part of me thinks we should.  I think it would make alot of people happy.

3)today is crazy

yeah baby yeah

Erm, no these diff swings are not normal. From 202 to 39k in a split second. What's more, the difficulty is reported wrong in cgminer, by a few K higher. Something is wrong!

DEV is uncontainable I did put this on GIT HUB and he /she just closed it

You appear as the only one to be able to contact DEV

Unless you can point me to DEV here!!!

I think you may not understand the code and consequential issues ( my understanding is also imperfect)...

The time may be here to Fork TRC if dev will not change the code...Someone will get the patch together and put it on Github and see who adopts it

Good God. Not another TRC mess up. This is getting silly.

I thought there was supposed to be some kind of hard coded 3 day hack in this patch that guaranteed us at least 3 days of no difficulty chaos.

And as usual we have crazy_rabbit running around telling us everything is fine, as the coin is jumping up and down from 400 to 40k.

Um, no. I am not running around telling everyone, everything is fine. I am as concerned as you are and was fully convinced that this was fixed when I saw the blocks going again. I am not the DEV nor even a programmer, so I can't evaluate the code on it's own merits. This is supposed to be an open source project so everyone is supposed to contribute.

Personally? I don't know what is supposed to be done about it. I'm downloading the same client as everyone else, and receiving the same mailing list emails. So I don't know what else you want me to do. Yeah I look pretty silly now all in love with TRC don't I? Well what else can I do? I admit it no? I look silly. I'm still hoping this can be fixed- but I can't fix it myself. I'm only one part of this project, I work on my little corner, and it's not the programming corner. We've had lots of great input from Coinotron, SunnyKing and many others. I think it can still be saved, but can your confidence in it be saved? I don't know. You have to figure that out yourself.

I think that's why he asked for you or someone else to explain them:

to be accurate, he/she did not just closed it, he/she mentioned that this issue was duplicating another one :
link: https://github.com/terracoin/terracoin/issues/35

Quote
"dup issue #33"

by the way ... i'm pretty sure the overall non-attacking hashrate is quite miserable, bitcoin algo would be just stucked at 100-500k+ Ghashes/s

to prevent those relatively big diff jumps .. there's nothing to do but mining ; the more miners, the smaller the attackers impact (you already know that)

I'm out at an enormous loss.  whoever the dev is, is fired.  crazy rabbit you have a pirate hat on, you'll fit right in on this ship.

jubilex

are we taking it over.  can we change the platform with exchanges still trading TRC?  I bought Trollcoin.org for the purpose of firing terracoin and turning it into trollcoin.  and making it a functional coin.  but I am not the most genius coder, I've only got about a year of coding experience,

with trollcoin.org I'm going to set up a donation jar for trollcoin, and the wallet will be transparent and everyone involved with the development of the project will get a cut of the donations.  not sure how it will work, but I'm open to suggestions.

let's rally the pirates, I'm setting up a chatbox on trollcoin.org to start the show

yeah baby yeah

@spacegoat

Same as boat as you. Started coding in anything higher level than PHP in 2011 with Bitcoin, well, the miners that were in C. I only have very minimal knowledge of C++, reading the bitcoin source was hard enough, not sure how we can fix it.

BUT I AM ABOARD ON THE IDEA OF A FORK!

I'm not sure I would really get onboard a fork.  I would probably follow whatever the exchanges do.

But, it would be interesting to see what would happen if everybody (or many people) went back a couple versions, to before all the "fixes," and started mining a new forked chain from that point.

Personally, at the moment, I am not having a problem with Terracoin.  Things looked weird to me when the new difficulty caught on and the block generation rate shot sky high, but it looks stable to me, now.  Maybe it's just me.

terracoin is going through like 200 blocks every 10 minutes.  way too fast.  coins will flood the market.  maybe its fine

All we do is update main.cpp with the code for retarget and release that on github and recomend adoption

I managed to cut all my yesterday losses in half an hour time today, luckily I timed trades to perfection somehow. Won't touch trc until it stabilizes completely.

Get trade fortress or someone to put the BTC retartget in, and put on github, then see if it is taken up as a fork the current DEV has proven they have no idea
