I don't see anything strange in this. I mean it's not that Bitcoin is usualy on the covers or presented much in.media and this rally is not some big spectacle. It's true that Bitcoin misses good presentation and marketing in media but this has to be done systematicaly not just on certain occasions.

The only thing that the news covers is things that people already know and use or seen , the lack of news coverage for the bitcoin is because people are not interested in it so even if they cover it people don't care about it so why bother covering the news of bitcoin's price going high that only 1% of the viewers are interested in it over covering the news of a dog saving a woman that 99% of the viewers will be interested in it .
You do have a point, of the media only covering what people will find interesting just to raise the number of views , but in some way not covering bitcoin is good for it.

I mean if many people know about it and us it it will make it harder for the 1% of us that actually care about bitcoin and have supported it for so long against for those who are new who came just for the quick profit and the quick money .

Media coverage is not needed. Most people need to just remember what is bitcoin. And most of the bitcoin marketing is done face to face. Not seing the level of marketing is the higher form of presence. And actualy the less visible the marketing it is the more expensive and effective its usualy is.

All I could find are the following articles:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-12-23/bitcoin-surges-above-900-on-geopolitical-risks-fed-tightening

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-12-22/bitcoin-soars-above-900-china-opens

http://uk.businessinsider.com/bitcoin-price-breaks-900-on-december-23-2016-12

This is in sharp contrast to Dec 2013 when everyone but everyone was covering it.

It's also in sharp contrast to the Ether pump, which even had the NYTimes busily talking about how ETH would replace BTC.
While I think there is some kind of policy to not give good news about bitcoin, it may also be the case that, when it happened before people were not expecting it and were surprised by it, now years later, they may see this new rally and think this is nothing new.

The mainstream media doesn't cover half of what they should, they just do what they are told, seems the most all round news comes from alternative sources nowadays like Drudge etc.

Unless bitcoin does break the 1000 dollars i doubt media will make any new about those, but its wizzard that no one is talking about bitcoin since its worthing 950 dollars, i do believe some companies are paying to media avoid bitcoin articles, otherwise makes no sense, no one reports the high price around bitcoin at all.

Yes, I too think that $1000 will be the magic number that will get some coverage by the media, even the MainStream Media.  To its credit, Zero Hedge had two or three articles in recent days re BTC's price rise (and claiming it was Chinese buying mostly responsible).

$1000..., and especially if it keeps going up at a good clip, there will be more coverage.

For me it's obvious what is happening - big whales're trying to get as much bitcoins as they can without increasing much hype so the price won't raise in space.  George Kikvadze from BitFury in Twitter - "Last 24hrs couple of $10bln+ AUM Funds calling to buy 30k-50k bitcoins.. We were not selling then / not selling now"

Wait for it to break the all time high and see how many mainstream news publications cover Bitcoin again. Because of the rise and fall during 2013, everyone thinks Bitcoin was just a fad. They have not taken into account the real value of Bitcoin in penetrating markets that the banks do not want to serve. Specifically the illegal drugs market in the dark markets.

There might be some vested interests on the top level, and thus we might not see extensive coverage in the media. I don’t think media can keep ignoring Bitcoin for a long time if the rally sustains at $900 to $1,200 levels. I believe that we are going to see volatility in the year 2017 and in that period, the price might touch record-breaking upper levels and media will HAVE TO pay attention towards Bitcoin if they call them news reporters. It's not something that we should worry about.

i think the press is not thinking too much about bitcoin and they are not serious to see that bitcoin is another good investment that people can do and they only seek another news that will attracting people to read their article. the bitcoin has minimum promote in outside as i can see in my place, there are only few people near me that talking about bitcoin.

Maybe they are all busy about covering world events that would give them good ratings and high viewers unless the bitcoin price surge to another new high surpassing its previous record. Some well-known media entity like bloomberg also made some reports of bitcoin's continuing price surges but many of those who are putting bitcoin into the news are mostly dealing with cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin isn`t a relatively new cryptocurrency compared to ethereum. It`s 7 years old.

I quess, that`s why all the media don`t care about bitcoin price increase.

Price fluctuations in bitcoin are known, so maybe the press doesn't think it's worth to mention.
The people who know bitcoin know are aware of the increase, those who don't pay no attention.
Press has to write news that sell, in there eyes that might not be the case with bitcoin anymore.
If it is that way, I'm not sure it's a good or a bad thing for bitcoin.

I haven't seen much press outside of the cryptocurrency news sites regarding this rally but hadn't thought of it too much till now.
Wonder why it is being kept quite this time.

I think there is a lot more coverage in local newspapers and websites. When I say local, I mean country-wide.
There was one in a popular Belgian newspaper/tabloid.

It's not something to get worried about, we're not quite ready for absolute mass adoption right now so it's probably a good thing bitcoin isn't splashed everywhere.

Let's just continue going at the upwards curve we currently are over the last 12 months & everything will fall into place.

Don't worry, press coverage will start soon enough - probably after Bitcoin reaches 4 digits. Although there is some reporting, it's actually good that journalists are still sleeping. Rallies fueled by mass media are the least sustainable. Uninformed people that only buy because of greed triggered by mainstream media tend to be quickly disappointed. We don't need that.

In my opinion the recent price moves are driven by real demand - mostly from India. So I would think that this rally is a bit more sustainable than the previous mega-bubble.

Journalists not interested in bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. They are only interested  about anything that will bring advertising that is money for their channel or newspaper they work. Also, what they care is the reputation around their name. So if tomorrow morning there is announcement about a the very promising  trash-coin which will bring fame and money for them and his/her employer they will take care and they will write many articles, with no hesitation, about this non-existent coin.
