I was wondering if someone could help me understand merged mining.

I'm currently mining XMR using my Gpu and Cpu on Minergate, and there is an option to to merged mine FCN or XDN. and so im trying to figure out what exactly happens when I start merged mining, how it is different then if I just ran two separate .bat miners simultaneously for both coins, and is this only possible if they are solving on the same algorithm.

,Thanks

you can make set up on the software and you can only choose to mining xmr alone and not to merged with other coins. i think its not a good idea to merged mining but if you are curious then you can try it. i don't know about the calculation of merged mining, because i am not using the merged mining option.

If You start two different mining instances for two coins You will get half speed of what Your system can mine on both miners. If coin is made with merged mining capability, if You mine on pool where is merged mining enabled, You will get full speed of the miner on the first coin and second reward (merged coin) for free just like You would have second system with full speed mining on it.

Thank you, that's what i wanted to know. Could you go into detail as to how that's possible

Hello guys does anybody know how many coins is possible merge mine together ?

I have found out that ( at least it seems to me ) that there is possible merge mine only 2 coins at the time ?

01:07:11: *** ACCEPTED CrownCoin 1187409 (+1)
01:07:11: *** CONFIRMED 1187409 :

01:07:11: I0Coin 1992117 REJECTED
01:07:11: SysCoin 12834 REJECTED

if I disable those two coins that were solved than there are "only" 2 other coins solved but never more than 3 coins at the time, when this happen output from coin daemon debug log says:

2016-12-27 17:23:17 ERROR: Aux POW missing chain merkle root in parent coinbase

It seems like that "merkle root" can be some x bytes in size but never more am I right ? So therefore parent blockchain would need to adjust it (increase it) I guess..

It's from the coin's design. Obtains better chances of having coin network hashrate at high level using hashing from "main" coin with same algo.

Huh, I don't see pool for that in the moment. Anyone feel free to use my affiliate link to Minergate to merge mine XDN+XMR,   FCN+XMR,   FCN+QCN,   FCN+DSH,   FCN+INF8, MCN+QCN, MCN+DSH or MCN+INF8.

Well multipool.us is now merge mining 1+3 SHA256 coins. So should be possible.

It depends on the specific coin - some are designed to allow "Merged mining" with other coins that use the same algorythm, some are not.

On a specific algorythm, you set up to mine ONE coin (optimally one that is NOT merge mineable, like Bitcoin for SHA256 or LiteCoin for Scrypt) then set up other coins that CAN be merge mined in addition to that base coin (I can't speak to SHA256 offfhand, but Doge has been merge mineable for Scrypt for quite a while now among others).

The "merge mining" setup takes nonces you find for the base coin, and attempts to apply them to the merge-mined coin - with occasional successes - thus giving you additional coins mined for no additional hashwork needed.

The net effect of Merge Mining is to deliver a *little* more profit for mining that algorythm, at the cost of some added complexity (either done by the pool in many cases, or done by you if you're running your own P2Pool node or solo mining).

Anyone know the status of https://mergemining.com?  I know it's harder for smaller pools to find blocks these days, and would that mean even on a mergedmining pool that no one would be getting paid any coin if no BTC block was found?  Or, do they find the smaller coins and pay out for them?

I can't speak to mergemining.com, but for Scrypt the pool www.litecoinpool.org merge-mines several coins, then keeps them and uses the profits to pay pool fees - AND SOME ADDITIONAL back to you over that.
They were paying 103% of the value of you shares (aka a -3% pool fee) 'till a few days ago, when they dropped to 102%.

Other pools will vary - LiteGuardian had some merge mining set up, but gave YOU the merge-mined coins (DOGE and something else I'm forgetting offhand) and still charged a fee, for another example.
