Hi all. I'm not entirely new to Bitcoin (have been playing poker with btc for a while) but I've never tried buying or selling btc before and don't know much about that. I don't particularly want to join the current trading frenzy but would like to know for future reference about options for buying and selling. MtGox seems to be ridiculous at the moment. I've read a few articles listing exchange sites, but would be great to get advice from personal experiences. What are the most reliable/convenient/trustworthy/good-value options? Thanks in advance to anybody who's willing to share their thoughts   Smiley
It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Thanks. Looks like there are limited withdrawal options for me on some of these (I'm UK based) Undecided  guess it's just going to take a long time to wade through them all and work out a sensible option.

For a UK citizen, I can also recommend www.bitstamp.net. I have bought all my BTC there (besides a small MtGox detour) and have no complaints. My SEPA deposits usually take 1-2 business days and trading has been smooth during the last months. SEPA withdrawals take a little bit longer. The reachability of their website as been very good during the last DDoS-heavy days, way better than MtGox. Their 24h trade volume has almost tripled this week and their engine still seems to handle it well.

I know that sounds like advertisment, but I'm not affiliated with them. Just a satisfied customer who thinks that Bitstamp is a very viable alternative to the sucking MtGox, esp. for EU citizens.

I have received today withdrawal to my bank account via bitcoin-24.com. It took only 2 business days from request to cleared payment via SEPA same day.

Thanks for the replies, it's good to hear from people who've used the sites. The amount of time a withdrawal takes is not really a big issue for me as long as it's not totally unreasonable. And, obviously, as long as the withdrawal fees aren't prohibitive! Hopefully some of the other exchanges can grow a bit in the light of MtGox failing to keep up with increased interest in BTC  Smiley

I created an account at campbx.com last night at 10pm, sent my verification docs.  This morning when I woke up I had an email saying I was verified, it arrived at 2:25am.  That's 4 1/2 hours to get verified.  Sure beats mtgox's wait of what, several weeks?

Limit is $15k deposit per day, max account $50k.

I haven't started trading there yet, but looks like a good alternative.

I was going to use them until I saw your post and took a closer look at withdrawals.  "International withdrawals will be charged with 0.09% fee, minimum fee is $15.00".

Hello all, we recently launched Crypto Street which is more than a simple alternative to MtGox. Our exchange is a sort of meta exchange which ties together all of the other exchanges.  As a result, you'll consistently get the best bid and ask price AND we support multiple crypto currencies.

We are still in a private beta, but if you sign up now, you'll be invited in shortly.
