hi
I am going to start mining with two Sapphire rx470 4gb nitro plus. One of them has hynix memory and the other one has elpida one. I have flashed both of them with the right bios to boost the hashrate. My os is win10 pro . The problem is that during the installation of radeon driver(tested both 16.9.1 and 16.12) when the second card is detected(fans go off) then the screen goes black.and Windows restarts and it won't boot up. When i check each card individually with their original and modded roms everything is ok.
mb: Gigabyte z170 ud3
cpu:g4400
the gpus are connected with 16x16 riser cables.
The best solution to this problem will be rewarded.
Thanks
PS.somewhere on the internet i read about patching the driver so please help me with details if i have to patch it to make it work

the problem you are having is with the 16.12 catalyst.  You cannot use it with modded bios unless you make some other changes.  Also uninstalling it does no good either.  The fastest and easiest way to get rid of the problem is to do a fresh install and stay away from 16.12 unless you are well versed in drivers and bios modding.  Once you install 16.12 it will behave like 16.12 even if DDU is used.  You can do some other mods but for mining it would just be easier to use 16.11 or earlier

With the newer driver you can patch it to work with custom bioses

The steps are here(from http://www.overclock.net/t/1604567/polaris-bios-editing-rx480-rx470-rx460/1050#post_25699216):

Quote
Download the modified kernel driver here: https://mega.nz/#!AtUWDCaZ!zjfCIH9IZBnCGkbgs-EyqaAnejQY11w-r_bTYKggQ30
Download the Pixel Clock Patcher here: https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-AMD-ATI-Pixel-Clock-Patcher (needed for the windows driver signature workaround)

1) Navigate to the amd driver extraction directory, usually "C:\AMD" then go into" Win10-64Bit-Radeon-Software-Crimson-ReLive-16.12.1-Dec7\Packages\Drivers\Display\WT6A_INF\B309333"
2) Extract the modified kernel driver in the "\B309333" directory overwriting the file
3) Uninstall current amd drivers normally and DO NOT REBOOT when asked
4) Reboot with advanced options like so:
5) Press and hold the Shift key on your keyboard and click the Restart button.
6) Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings and click the Restart button.
7) When your computer restarts you’ll see a list of options, press F7 on your keyboard to select Disable driver signature enforcement.
This is needed only ONE TIME to successfully install the modified kernel, in the next reboot the driver signature enforcement will return to normal.
Cool Install the driver normally with setup.exe in C:\AMD\Win10-64Bit-Radeon-Software-Crimson-ReLive-16.12.1-Dec7
DO NOT REBOOT WHEN ASKED
9) When the installation is finished run the atikmdag-patcher.exe (this will take care of driver signature for windows so we no loger need to disabled the enforcement with F7)
10) Press yes to patch the file
11) When finishes reboot the pc and enjoy your modified bios

Hope this helps you!

Like I stated, you can work around it but it is not advantageous for a miner to run 16.12.  It offers no benefit and when expanding to more rigs you will need to do it every time.  The best bet is to do a fresh install of Windows and use 16.10 or 16.11.  The yellow flag is from the Driver and needs to be either worked around as noted on overclock.net or like I have stated.

see the switch ontop of the card? switch it on the card that is having issues and see if the issue goes away.  if it does your bios mod is set to high and the card is not liking it.  I know because I have about 20 of them that do the same thing and now they are on standard firmware and not the primary card in the array.

  • 1) Use DDU to uninstall all the traces of the previous installation of the driver
    2) Now when you have edited the bios to format it; change the base clock of the Polaris bios editor to something like 1150 (in the P7 state) and 1050 mv (P7 voltage)
    3) Change the memory settings to 1750 Mhz and 1050 mv
    4) Now format this new bios on card (this will make sure that your card does not load with high frequencies which cause the crash while booting)
    5) Now just install one card and install the display drivers : preferably 16.9.2
    6) Now check if the card is working well
    7) If it works then go for the second card and reboot
Cool Special instruction for Hynix.. Make sure that the card is not run at really high clocks.

Could've also been a bad bios that was flashed, or a psu dropping voltage if its not booting. Probably b est bet is to try to use old drivers instead of worrying about new drivers right now, would be better to use the stock bioses and make sure everything works, then flash if needed then

There is no point in using 16.12.x for mining - it provides 5-10% SLOWER hashrate than 16.9.2 or 16.10.1 on the testing I did on that bloated "Relive" junk.

 IGNORE IT.

1. Format your win system and install new fresh
2. install 16.9.2 amd driver
3. lower your core clock and memory clock (maybe 10 to 20 points)

sometimes GPU card won't work with default modded setting, for example my rx 470 4 gb nitro modded bios, i lower its memory clock to 1920 from 1945 (its memory clcok default modded bios)

Some of my testing was on RX 470s, and ALL of it under Win7.
 16.12.1 lost a little over 10 sol/s per car vs 16.9.2 or 16.10.1

I doubt 16.12.2 would be any different, but I concede I've not bothered testing that specific version.
