Gox halting trading will stop the panic?  Seems to me more likely to cause people to use other exchanges and just panic more.

I doubt it. Gox controls the market. I bet the other exchanges will barely budge an inch

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Mtgox controls 80%+.  They are the benchmark by which most Bitcoin software programs draw the value from.

Very naive to think what's going on at Mtgox doesn't affect the rest the exchanges.

Mtgox has gotta go.  We need a decentralized exchange.
