Bitcoin Price Tops $1,000 in First Day of 2017 Trading

The price of bitcoin inched upward over the course of trading today, passing $1,000 for the first time on CoinDesk Bitcoin Price Index since early January 2014.

Though the price (at press time) was still shy of a three-year high of $1,023 set in January of that year, the milestone nonetheless marks a bright beginning to 2017 for the digital currency. (Bitcoin appreciated by more than 100% in 2016).

The price had reached as high as $999 earlier in the day only to fall back to the $960s, a pattern that was similarly observed over the last week of trading as bitcoin failed to build momentum toward $1,000.

The increase notably took place during what was a day of lower-than-average trading volume, 7-day exchange data from Bitcoinity reveals.

As asserted by analysts, 2017 is expected to be a banner year, one that could finally lead the price to pass its all-time high of $1,216.7 set in 2013.

Possibly, but it is more than likely a lot of speculators were also jumping at the opportunity and, based on the market, everyone still thinks it has a real chance to go higher and higher than it did before.

More people would be selling if they were worried, right now the market seems content sitting near the $1k mark and chances are they won't get worried anytime soon.

If the stock markets start to go up, we might see a sell-off. I don't know for sure.

I think the bitcoin price in February will drop because of sudden pumping of the price the next to it is dump so better to trade or convert your bitcoin now. So i will suggest that while the bitcoin is so high convert or trade it now or you will loose the pick price.

Indeed my friend it is a pretty good year. I had posted once that prices shall touch 1000$ soon and so did it. I do feel if the global uncertainty continues then it should be reaching anywhere around 1200-1500$. But that would be more clear from Jan when our president elect takes office and makes decision. It will be interesting to see what he could do. Will brexit officially happen. There so much that can take btc upwards.

It is a great news for them who bought bitcoin when it's price was under 400$.I bought 10btc when bitcoins price was under 500$ and now I am in a very good position.I think I should not be too greedy and better to convert bitcoin to fiat.Because in 2017 bitcoins price won't increase much I think.

I've been watching fiatleak.com and the HUGE movements in BTC traded at the exchanges.  So far, some 95,000 BTC have traded in 45 minutes (as of about 10:33 PM US ET).

About 93,000 was CHINA.  I noticed a trx go by of a cool BTC1000, the most I have ever seen go by "live".  That's $1,000,000...

US total was about 1200. All others were more than an order of magnitude lower.

Yeah, I know that fiatleak has its "issues" (double counting in many cases, etc.), but it's fun to watch.

Bitfinex moved past $1000 an hour ago, don't know which exchange the OP is quoting, but the Western onew were below $1000 at the time of his post.

It could hit $1000 before 2017, on December 31, but looks some interests make the BTC hit $1000 only now, after the holidays. I believe it's time to sell BTCs and wait the price fall again to buy more, this way it's possible to make some profit. Stay at the big whales side and you will be fine.

Bitcoin already has hit 1014$,and I think it will rise continuously.Now its time to think about selling the Bitcoin or keeping in your wallet.If you sell your Bitcoin now,when the price is higher,you can buy more Bitcoins if the price drops again and store more Bitcoins in your wallet.This is a possibility,to think about.But how if the Bitcoin's price will rise continuously,and will hit 1200$ in a short period of time?it is better to keep your Bitcoins in your wallet?The future will tell that...

Yes it is good for on 2017 the bitcoin's price had increased up to $1,000 but for me it is must be anticipated because bitcoin's price always can be decreasing.
So for the traders bitcoins always becareful because usually after bullish trend always becomes bearish trend and i think it is time for taking profit on 2017 and wait until the price becomes go down then buy back again.

It will take another 6 months to cross that all time highest price of bitcoins .this is the best time for selling the bitcoims otherwise it might so happen that the price of bitcoins will fall to a great extend.
