For example according to coinmarketcap.com, BTC's 24 hour trading volume is just north of $300 mil ($323,164,000). Is this calculate from the ledger where BTC change hands / ownerships, which means that it is 100% accurate?

And also if I transfer from A exchange towards B exchange that will certainly be counted in the volume.

Thanks guys

In my perception, 24 hours volumes just present the active amount in the bitcoin ecosystem.
Yeah, that's including in the volume.

24 hour volume is the total volume of buys or sells (orders that are filled whether it is buy order or sell order) and for bitcoin or altcoins since the market is 24/7 you add back to 24 hours.
this means if time now is 10 AM you add all the volumes up to 10 AM yesterday. and when time now is 3 PM you add back to 3 PM yesterday.
but for other markets that close at a specific time like stocks market you say the total of volume in one day from open to close.

and no if you transfer (withdraw) bitcoin or altcoin from exchange A to B it is not "trade volume"

Appreciate.

Why is transfer from A to B exchange not considered a trade volume, since it's different address and hence are viewed as different "entity".

24H volume is based how much amount of bitcoin or altcoins were traded in that exchanger it's just to determine how active the market was and calculating the amount transferred from A to B exchanger is really unnecessary at this point, but you can still get the statistic from some site which sum up all popular exchangers 24H volume

as X-ray explained it is because that number is called "trade volume" when you transfer from A to B you are not trading you are withdrawing your crypto currency from one address to another. you can say it is because that is a different address.

What you said is right! I think is the overall coins transactions within twenty four hours. The volume may be in favour of selling of or buying up. The professional interpret the coins volume and buy or sell their coins accordingly. In other for use not to break your head the system calculate everything for you.

go to those exchange websites directly and open the market which you like to see its volume (like BTC_USD) and change the charts to daily and move your mouse on top of the candles. they usually show the volume on top. this is 24 hour volume and each candle represent 1 day.

if you want a more accurate and faster way use their API, it may require some programming knowledge but also you can simply open the link in a browser too.

There is a FOMO brewing...

If you want more detail and useful with any time frame under 48 hours, I recommend you should use @Digubot in telegram created by DigiByte. I used this bot and very like it, not just calculate trading volume, you can check the price, chart, fibb ... from this bot.

Okay it's not that complex as it sounds to calculate. I thought they consider all the volume coming from trades as well as exchanges. But isn't that still volume which is getting added to the receiving exchanger site? Then where is it calculated as they got added up with those extra funds from different exchanger. There has to be a formula to either consider this volume or neglect the same.

It is not possible to follow each and e very trader, there are more than a million people involved in the sale and purchase of the cryptocurrency so it is not easy to follow everyone. The exchanges are easy to get their data from. Almost every exchange shows its trading volume of 24 hours, so it is easy to calculate. Also the upsized during the period of calculation should be neglected.
