Ideas for a Bitcoin charity?

I have a few, albeit unoriginal ideas, such as a business loan program for entrepreneurs in third-world countries. I am seeing if there is a way to bypass to government health costs and regulations by creating charity hospitals funded by bitcoins.

I am sure some of you have more revolutionary ideas.

Charity over the Internet is very complicated. Scamming is very easy.

I dont see how you can do charity outside of your local zone and be effective, but I will be glad if wrong.

Depends on the size, but something like providing Internet and/or computers to children in the third world would be a noble goal and could be funded through BTC donations.

Not really BitCoin specific, but I think if some of the better libertarian economic texts were translated into other languages and handed out for free in poor countries, teaching poor third-world peoples the virtues of modern economics, it would go much further than dumping money into sending them aid, which invariably gets looted by gangs/politicians and sold on the black market.

actually, you will like this one Atlas, because one of the most helpful things need not even be charity, but it can be for-profit. It is incredibly difficult and expensive at times to send money to developing countries. There are many people in rich countries sending money back to families abroad paying obscene western union fees, getting scammed, etc. Simply having very low fee (or even free as a charity and in an effort to spread bitcoin adoption and increase its use) exchange houses would be a huge deal. Person sends bit coins to an exchange abroad. family comes in and picks up equivalent in local money.

Also, you could convince Kiva to accept bitcoins if you want to piggy back off small entrepreneur financing. Though microlending in a whole other debate.

Call me a wishful dreamer but I think that if we are really focused or comitted in giving to charoty then why not give a certain minimal percentage of every winnersgcut on gambling in bitcoin and will be automatically deposited in the wallet for that charity.

I absolutely agree. Many people will take advantage of this concept and end up cheating the so-called 'Bitcoin Charity' majority of the people that are using Bitcoins nowadays only want to earn more Bitcoins rather than give them away even for a charity, unless of course you are some bigtime millionaire, almost no one will bother to donate their BTCs.

I think we need more time for that. Bitcoin should be more established first before we can even think about charitable works through it. At this point, it will only be prone to abuse and corruption
