What should I expect to have to do when making my first purchase through an exch

What should I expect to have to do to ensure a smooth purchase of my first Bitcoins?

In the Bitcoin Core software I found a receive tab. Under that I found 'request payment' In there I found;

Payment information
URI: bitcoin:1PZZZXQdjLZZZZZFNxkxGjft8V2zJZZZZZ
Address: 1PZZZXQdjLZZZZZFNxkxGjft8V2zJZZZZZ

I guess maybe I'll have to enter that information, eh what?

And, of course, some credit card info so my funds go to them.

What else should I know so I don't muck it up?

Where are you buying your Bitcoin from?

In the Bitcoin Core software I found a receive tab. Under that I found 'request payment' In there I found;

You don't have to use that feature. Basically all you have to do is press 'File' and go into 'Receiving addresses':


Pick one address from there (or generate a new one) and sent it to the person/service that you've buying Bitcoin from. That's it. You can check your balance on any block explorer later, e.g. Blocktrail.

Thats it , its your address that you should use on exchange you buy from.
Then you will have bitcoins on your bitcoin address in bitcoin core software and you could send them anywhere.

If you are in the US, no matter how a bad name Coinbase have for their wallet, through them you will have the most hassle free bitcoin buying and selling. All they need from you is to verify your bank account.

If you are in Europe there are many like Bitstamp, Kraken and Bitpanda. I see Bitpanda as the easiest to buy as they don't need too much of a verification an email address plus a sms to your mobile number will give you access to buy up to 1000 Euro (in btc) per day.

I find the European way of acquiring bitcoins much easier as you have recommended it but will I be required to provide some sort of identification ?? And do they accept credit cards as the OP case...

With most exchanges, you create an account, then you fund the account, then you buy the bitcoins, and finally you send the bitcoins to your wallet (at the address in your receive tab).

Bitpanda. No more verification than an email address and a valid European mobile number where they will send a SMS to verify it's you. I don't know if they accept credit cards but it's almost the same as they accept, Amazon cards, Paypal, Skrill ,Neteller which are very well known payment processors.
