Hi,
Which one do you prefer to use for HDD mining? SJCX values in the Poloniex site seem to be more advantageous. But the Burst community is more active.

Have you looked into Siacoin? You can rent out your drive with Sia and it has many exciting developments coming up regularly.

STORJ does not have any profitability calculator that we can use to determine profitability, but if what they told in their blog post is true, BURST would be more profitable to mine than STORJ (if you call 1-2$ per month profitability)

1 TB a month will very roughly get you:
 - $0.043 with SIA because only 4% usage (40MB) is expected (100% usage would get you $1.09) based on a calculator (http://siapulse.com/page/tools)
 - $1 with Storj based on some comments on reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/storj/comments/5kzmxw/got_paid)
 - $1.36 with Burst based on a calculator (http://burstcoin.biz/calculator)

I couldn't find info how big the Storj network is but Sia's network is 883 TB and Burst's is 13269 TB (but that's just POW, not rentable).

I prefer Storj but you would have to run it for a very long time to collect contacts.
In 2 days I only got 355 MB (333 contracts) rented out (out of 2TB).

None of these are money machines and certainly not worth investing in a farm, well maybe for Burst but for the other two it's a bad idea because of bandwidth scaling but if you have some free space, why not.

I'd mine burst as the profit potential each month is well defined. Keep in mind you'll need lots of hard drives to make any profit at all; I know people with ~1PB of storage that don't even make too much compared to people that mine with ASICs or GPUs with the same initial investment.

1TB has been paying 34-38 SJCX/ month for the last three months. Not much but pays electricity for that tiny file server which is always on anyways.

Latest SJCX payout formula:

I'm getting $5.50 or so per month over the last three months for 500GB.

I have set up 6 TB farm for storj. I tried last month for a few days with 1TB and got paid 32 Storj. I am hoping that next month it will be a much better profit. Storj coins are much less in number compared to burst. Storj has not been going down and they keep updating client regularly. Its more like plug and play type of software. Burst needs creating farms and then farming on it using different client (just a bit more work)

I don't really understand how is that possible with 500GB. Everything they said and I read online you need about 10TB in order to earn what you are earning now (about 5$ per month)

Do you truly mine STORJ though?  I'm currently mining BURST...been going very well the last 4 more  (12TB)....I'm mining to hold and/or potentially invest in BURST assets (creating an even greater roi).

If you have too much HDD space, it may make sense. Otherwise, HDD mining is not very logical.
Burst or other similar coin prices are very low. It would be more logical to buy and trade directly instead of mining for them.

Exactly. If you like the coin invest 15$ in it. It's not much and you will have more coins than what you will get from mining it for about 1-1.5 years. I really wish HDD mining is a viable option

The point is that burst and Storj are currently really really cheap. But if you can accumulate enough and one of those two takes of.. You have a good chance to recover everything. Storj does not block your hdd space until it is needed for storage which is good so while slowly you fill your hdd with storj content you can still use it. Burst needs farming full space rightway so you have to have dedicated space. But some say burst is more profitable. So pick a poison.

If you have spare space that you dont need I would do burst. If you have some space now but might want to keep your files in that space.. go for storj

the good side of burst is that you can use every hdd/ssd you have, even with realocated or bad blocks or ready to fail ( smart problem ) disks
as long as you can read from it, it generate Burst with no penalty

the other 2 you need to run over raid1 ( mirror ) if you don't want to lose money

with 18Tb on Burst for 1 mounth I have 17000 bursts
you can do the math with currect price

It's kind of pointless to me to halve your disk space on the off chance that a drive might fail.

And you can use multiple smaller drives in Storj with whatever size you want so if a drive fails not everything is ruined.

Yes you can do dual mining and since eth is in GPU while maximizing the usage of your rig with HDD for burst coin.
But make sure your rig can attain to do dual mining, check out your specs and watch out for your bill.
