It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

crypto currencies have different types of addresses (you can easily notice it in the first character of each one) like for example in bitcoin it start in 1 or 3 for multi signature address. most wallets won't let you send your coins to an invalid address like dogecoin to bitcoin directly, you will recieve an error message.

if you want to exchange your dogecoin to bitcoin, you should use exchange site instead, that will allow you to sell your dogecoin for bitcoins and withdraw it to your btc address

Nothing will be converted to anything , If your wallet is good enough then you won't be able to send the dogecoin in the first place.
Its worth mentioning that some coins (Omni) are based on the bitcoin-blockchain though , which means there is the possibility of sending them to a bitcoin address but you will need a wallet like Omniwallet to actually see them but nothing is going to be converted your address will be holding both the altcoin and bitcoin in the same time.

I have few dogecoin, what will happen if I send it (withdraw) to a bitcoin address?
Nothing, it won't send because address will be wrong. Even if address would be correct for both crypto currencies they have diffirent database.
Bitcoin has database A (blockchain) and dogecoin has database B. There is no connection between A and B.

Bitcoins are for bitcoin wallet, dodgecoins are for dodgecoin and etc.  You  cant make them as 1, its like water and oil they cant be together. So if you want to bitcoin ,you must first convert or trade your dodge into bitcoin.

It is very simple first you have to deposit your dogecoin to the exchange where dogecoins are trading and then in that exchange you have to sell the dogecoin to bitcoins after that only you will get bitcoins and from that sold dogecoin to bitcoin you can transfer them to your bitcoin wallet and now you are able to sell the bitcions . This is the right way of selling the dogecoins and not only dogecoin but all altcoin you have to do the same way of first sending them to the exchange where they are trading and then sell them for bitcoin and then transfer the sold altcoin bitcoin to the wallet and enjoy now the bitcoins.

No. Bitcoin wallets are different on any altcoin wallet. Altcoins like dogecoin, litecoin, monero or ethereum has its own wallets. You cant send bitcoin to dogecoin wallet. You cant send dogecoin to bitcoin wallet. Just consider it as a loss if you did that because you cant retrieve the funds you already transfered on different wallet because its not reversible.

@pufy, while it is not possible to send dogecoins to a normal Bitcoin address because the address would not be valid, it is possible to send dogecoins to a multisig Bitcoin address, the kind that starts with a "3". That is because Bitcoin and Dogecoin have multisig addresses that are interchangeable.

What happens when you send dogecoins to a Bitcoin address?

Please note that you are not really sending the coins to a Bitcoin address -- you are still sending them to a Dogecoin address. The real problem is that the wallet that generated the address is a Bitcoin wallet and does not access the Dogecoin blockchain.

Are there other cryptocurrencies that have this problem?

Yes, Litecoin multisig addresses area also interchangeable with Dogecoin and Bitcoin. In addition, there are several altcoins that even have interchangeable normal addresses. Example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1554373.0

How do you recover dogecoins sent to a Bitcoin address?

The only way to recover the coins is to ask the owner of the Bitcoin address to get a Dogecoin wallet and import the private keys from the Bitcoin wallet. Then they can access the dogecoins and return them to you. Please note that in the Dogecoin/Bitcoin case, these addresses are multisig, so the process is actually more complicated. This solution works in most (if not all) cases. As long as the generation of the addresses for each coin is the same, you can recover your coins. If the address generation is different, then the coins are lost forever.

If you want to convert/exchange one kind of coin for another, you can use an exchange or a service such as https://shapeshift.io

First thing first we need to understand that all crypto currencies fall under different cryptographic technologies {architectures} and if you send your dogecoins to a bitcoin address the transaction will not be broadcast because the two are on a different network but in your case a third party exchanger like shapeshift will facilitate the process.

Here there are a lot of good replies already, but I ll add a bit.
Yes, it's true nothing would happen if you would send bitcoin to dogecoin wallet. It's different currencies and have their own databases for everything.
But there are a lot of exchange services where you can make exchange of one cryptocurrency to another.
You can use also special rating services for exchangers. You can find better rate of exchange and comments and proofs about how this service works and avoid scam. For example www.bestchange.com or smth else.

Most of the wallets check the first letter (or first few letters) bitcoin addresses start with 1 or 3 (3 is multisig wallet address), so it would be fairly hard to send some other crypto to other wallet. Exampled dogecoin addresses start with "D".

You can not send Doge or any other altcoin to BTC address. When you try to do this, you can not send due to wrong address. Each altcoin have different block explorer, so you can send each altcoin to specific blockchain address, except if you send to instant exchanger, then you receive in BTC or in different altcoin. For example see link here https://www.shapeshift.io/#/coins.
