But I can say story from my country. Few years ago, gas terminal was builded and we started to buy gas from Norway which are imported with ships. These gas are cheaper than russian and we can be independent from russian gas. But now Gazprom offered good conditions and started to sell gas cheaper than earlier, because they don't want to lose clients.
But big European countries don't have alternatives. Transporting gas from arab countries is expensive.

Yes, project is expensive, but it's good. Lithuania don't need to buy gas from Gazprom, which they offered above market price. Now gas in our country become cheaper. Also, Gazprom now started to sell gas to Lithuania cheaper, and it's only because we have this ship. Also, Lithuania re-sells some gas from ship to other countries. Yes, project is expensive, but it's good. Lithuania don't need to buy gas from Gazprom, which they offered above market price. Now gas in our country become cheaper. The total Russian gas exports to the EU is around 179.3 billion cubic meters. Out of that the exports to Lithuania accounts for less than 1%. For Gazprom, this is very insignificant. And moreover, the LNG comes from Norway, which is diverting the gas which was otherwise destined for the United Kingdom. Lithuania buys gas from Norway, and therefore the UK needs to increase its gas purchases from Russia (in 2016, UK increased its purchases of Russian gas by 57%).
