Hello all, this is my first post around here, I'm a miner so most of my threads and answers will be regarding this side of the Altcoins (mining). Today I have a simple question for you: I have an EVGA 1600w PSU at hand, and I want to try some R9 Fury cards for mining, power cost is off the equation so it isn't a concern. So the real question here is: How many R9 Fury GPUs can I power with that GPU? I don't plan to overclock and might actually undervolt the setup. I'm thinking I might be able to power up to 5, just want to be sure I'm not stressing the PSU too much.

yeah a fury is about 200w without doing anything special to it.  You can get that down to 150w or lower, people put 900mhz/500 and undervolt to the max.  I think you can flash any fiji (nano) bios on it to undervolt -150, -175mv but dont take my word for it.  I have one, but I dont undervolt it that much because honestly, I play games with it when its not mining. (main computer).

edit:  Hey philipma1957, hows it going?  A bit off thread (ok a lot), but check out my website in my signature (its made to help noobs and have news on mining software/hardware).  I was thinking...if you were interested in re-viving the diff guessing contest you had (which was a lot of fun) ?  I'm not making any money with the website, but with the ads and referrals amazon and newegg it makes a couple of bucks (literally) I could take that money and sponsor the thread.  maybe once a month.  Maybe have others sponsor it too, like pandaminer or something.  just thinking out loud.

Hey Philipma, I seem to find you around the forum a lot, and it looks like you're very knowledgeable. Now, you say I can run 6 GPUs with 1600w, does that mean I can run 5 Fury GPUs with an Evga 1300w PSU safely?, again, I don't plan to do nothing crazy with them and with probably undervolt and the price difference between 1600w-1300w is important.

You would be fine, especially if you undervolt.
I'm running 4x 290 @900/1250/-56mV on a 850w PSU, entire rig is drawing pretty much exactly 850w DC.
